Tesla’s Full Self-Driving AI software version 14 (FSD v14) brings a major improvement to its users, recognizing human gestures.

The latest FSD v14.2 subversion official release notes mention that Tesla has further improved the neural network, and Tesla AI is now even more capable of identifying hand gestures by humans.

Upgraded the neural network vision encoder, leveraging higher resolution features to further improve scenarios like handling emergency vehicles, obstacles on the road, and human gestures.

After further refinement, Tesla has started the wide release of FSD v14.2.1 (2025.38.9.6).

As of this writing, thousands of Tesla owners in North America have received the FSD v14.2.1 update. Tesla is also upgrading all FSD v14.2 users to the latest point release.

FSD v14.2.1 Recognizes Hand Gestures Despite Red Lights and Stop Signs

A Tesla owner tested FSD v14.2.1 in a specific scenario, at a red light, where police traffic controllers were using hand gestures (video below).

Despite the red light, the police were signaling to move forward. FSD v14.2.1 obeyed the hand gestures and moved forward, although the traffic lights were red.

The human supervisor sitting in the driver’s seat was ready to hit the accelerator pedal. However, he didn’t need it as the car proceeded crossing the red light all by itself. It was the correct decision in this situation, and FSD v14.2.1 did not hesitate or get confused; there was no brake-stabbing as well.

In another test (watch below), FSD v14.2.1 successfully follows a hand gesture after being stopped by a STOP sign. As the human dressed as a traffic controller asks the vehicle to move forward using a hand signal, Tesla AI recognizes it safely (complying after a few iterations) and moves ahead.

Hand Gesture Recognition of Another Driver

In another interesting video, Tesla FSD v14.2.1 correctly recognized the hand gesture of a driver of an oncoming vehicle. At an intersection, the pickup truck driver coming from the front waved at the Tesla car to move to the left.

Without hesitation or brake-stabbing, Tesla Full Self-Driving version 14.2.1 turned to the left. This shows the great improvements that the automaker has made to the AI vision encoder in FSD v14.2.1 (2025.38.9.6).
