Tesla (TSLA) made some major changes in FSD v14.3. Tesla AI team’s focus in this release was on faster reaction time and detecting smaller animals.
FSD v14.3 (2026.2.9.6) release notes suggest that Tesla has achieved a 20% faster reaction time in this update. Considering the nature of Tesla FSD, a 20% improvement is quite significant.
Another point in the release notes mentions an improvement in detecting and handling smaller animals. This is particularly interesting, as previous versions demonstrated the ability to detect deer and other animals even when they were out of human sight.
“Tesla puts a lot of effort into ensuring that our cars don’t run over animals,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on X yesterday.
Let’s look at a few scenarios that demonstrate Tesla FSD’s improved response to traffic situations and vulnerable road users (VRUs) in version 14.3.

Humans and Animals Suddenly Crossing the Road
A few Tesla owners gave FSD v14.3 a challenge that tested its reaction time in a real-world scenario. Tesla FSD uses AI Vision to drive the car autonomously (currently, human supervision is required by law). Therefore, testing the system in the dark is crucial to evaluate the performance of Tesla FSD.
Spencer sat in a Tesla Model 3 (Highland / Hardware 4) while his friend jumped in front of the vehicle from the side of the road. Appearing from pitch black. He repeated this multiple times from both sides.
Probably, a human would’ve been blindsided, but Tesla FSD v14.3 handled these multiple attempts. The system braked at the right moment to avoid a frontal collision with a VRU (a human in this case).
Tesla FSD has also been observed to make emergency stops to avoid deer, ducks, and other wild animals suddenly appearing from the sides of the road (video compilation below).

FSD v14.3 Insane Reaction Time: Multiple Scenarios
Popular FSD beta tester AI Driver (ex-Tesla employee) also received the v14.3 update. During his test drives, he experienced an amazing reaction time from Tesla FSD that only a sharp human mind with superfast reflexes could deliver.
As he took a left turn onto a narrow street with cars parked on both sides, one of the vehicles on the right (the navy blue crossover SUV in the video below) tried to cut in.
Most probably, the other car driver wasn’t aware of the Tesla moving in. However, Tesla FSD v14.3, with its improved reaction time, slammed the brakes and instantly turned the car a bit to the left, correctly anticipating a possible collision and avoiding it successfully.

Another Tesla owner felt the improvement in reaction time while using FSD v14.3. At an intersection with traffic lights, Tesla FSD took an unprotected left turn (UPL) as soon as the oncoming car’s blinker signaled that it was going to its left (opposite direction).
This is interesting as FSD AI is constantly monitoring signals from other cars all the time. However, in a rare false-positive case, this fast reaction time might be a problem.
In another video shared by a Tesla owner (watch below), the improved reaction time in FSD v14.3 potentially saved an accident on a highway. Tesla FSD pulled to the left as soon as it detected the reckless overspeeding of the car approaching from behind.
Acronyms used:
- VRUs = Vulnerable Road Users (humans, animals, bicycles, etc.)
- FSD = Full Self-Driving
- AI = Artificial Intelligence
