Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) is perhaps the only auto manufacturing company in the world that didn’t believe in traditional ways of advertisement — but times are changing fast. Tesla seems to be breaking its tradition now.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk believes if the product is compelling enough, it should not need advertisement. For many years Tesla has been strong on this stance. The only way the automaker used to promote its products was the use of social media especially Twitter (now X).
Almost all the electric vehicle manufacturers have predicted a slow or no growth in 2024. Elon Musk also pointed out this factor during the 2023 Tesla earnings call. To overcome this slow growth barrier, Tesla’s marketing team has come up with a few ideas.
Last week, a Cybertruck was spotted on the US roads — towing a Tesla Model Y electric SUV enclosed inside a glass box. This transparent cube container had “The Best-Selling Car Is Made In America” written on all 4 walls. A vehicle promotion tour by Tesla, unheard of before.

Tesla is referencing the Jato Dynamics vehicle sales report of 2023 on the Model Y trailer that’s circling the US highways.
Tesla sold 1.23 million Model Y SUVs in 2023 vs Toyota selling 1.07 million RAV4 SUVs and 1.01 million Corolla sedans. Tesla earned the best-selling car award in both the EV and ICE (internal combustion engine) segments combined.
In addition to the roads, Tesla has now been seen doing online advertisements as well. Earlier this week, a Reddit user saw a Tesla Model Y ad on YouTube. The automaker using social media and video streaming sites to sell its vehicles is an entirely new phenomenon for the Tesla Community.
Besides the low sales prediction, the pressure on using tried and tested promotion methods might be driven by the increased competition by Chinese EV makers like BYD.

While Tesla is running its ad campaign both through online and offline mediums, the automaker is preparing to increase the price of the Model Y SUV. Tesla will raise the price of all the Model Y variants by $1,000 on 1st April 2024.
Luckily, the Tesla Model Y qualifies for the full Federal Tax Credit of $7,500 and it’s deducted from the price of the vehicle at the time of purchase.
More interestingly, inventory Tesla Model Y vehicles can be bought for as low as $10,000 or even less compared to a new Tesla Model 3.
Model Y Prices Before and After April 1st:
Variant | Prices before 1st April 2024 | Prices after 1st April 2024 |
---|---|---|
Model Y RWD | $43,990 | $44,990 |
Model Y Long Range AWD | $48,990 | $49,990 |
