Tesla (TSLA) launched the highly-awaited Performance variant of the Model Y in Europe earlier today. Looks like China and North America have to wait a bit more for this version.
The specs and upgrades made to the new Tesla Model Y Performance are highly anticipated by the auto enthusiast community. It took Tesla more than half a year to introduce the Performance variant since the Model Y Juniper launch in Europe earlier this year.
The new Tesla Model Y Performance doesn’t just boost acceleration or top speed; it is also a visual upgrade from the daily driver variants. After all, a performance car should look like one as well.

With the launch in Europe, Tesla released the following video of the new Model Y Performance. This footage highlights features and design elements that differentiate it from the non-performance Model Y versions.
Model Y Performance Range
Tesla has done some magic in this area. Despite the exceptional acceleration and performance, the automaker has achieved a very reasonable range for its performance-oriented midsize electric SUV.
The new Tesla Model Y Performance boasts a range of 580 km (360 miles). However, this range figure is based on Europe’s WLTP standard. If we convert this range to the US EPA standards, it translates to 308 miles (497 km).
The legacy Model Y Performance in the United States had an EPA estimated range of 279 miles (449 km).
With the new battery chemistry and technological advancements, Tesla has added a significant amount of range to the new Model Y Performance while maintaining its top speed and acceleration.
Reportedly, Tesla is using a higher-density battery for the new Model Y Performance. The battery pack size is not officially announced but automotive journalists covering the vehicle in Europe report that there is an 82-84 kWh usable battery capacity, which means the entire battery size is around 90-92 kWh (if 90% is usable).

Acceleration and Top Speed
Since the new Model Y Performance is launched in Europe and some other countries only, Tesla is showing range and performance figures in kilometers and km/h.
The 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance achieves a 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. This figure has improved from the outdated Model Y Performance‘s 3.7 seconds.
Converting from metric to imperial units, 0-100 km/h is equal to 0-62 mph. So, for North America, Tesla might use the same 3.5 sec figure for 0-60 mph or cut it by 0.1 or 0.2 seconds, considering the difference in unit conversion. However, the automaker tends to be cautious with its numbers, so it might remain the same as in Europe.
The top speed of the new Model Y Juniper Performance remains the same as the legacy Model Y Performance, that is, 250 km/h (155 mph).

Exterior Upgrades
To differentiate from lower-end variants and achieve better aerodynamics, Tesla has made various changes to the front and rear fascia of the new Model Y Performance.
Front Fascia
The design of the Model Y Performance front bumper is modified to include air intake ducts on both sides. This additional air is needed to cool down brakes and tires. These air intakes are located just under the matrix headlights.
The front bumper diffuser is more pronounced and shows better air intake as well.

Rear Fascia
Tesla has also made changes to the rear fascia of the Model Y Performance to give it a sportier look compared to the non-performance variants.
Like the front bumper, the rear bumper also has air outflow ducts, but they’re more subtle compared to the front ones (look for side character lines in the image below).
The rear black diffuser is much more pronounced, and the carbon fiber spoiler complements the sportiness of the vehicle. “Performance carbon spoiler = greater downforce, reduced drag,” says Tesla.

Wheels, Tires, and Suspension
The new Tesla Model Y Performance comes with 21″ Arachnid 2.0 Wheels included in the price of the vehicle. These wheels are not available for lower-end variants, even as a premium option.
This is primarily because the Tesla Model Y Performance and Tesla Model 3 Performance have a customized performance-tuned chassis. This suspension system includes adaptive dampers. Both these Performance variants don’t have air suspension, but Track Mode V3 has variable settings to adjust adaptive damping during track driving.
Tesla Model Y Performance comes with Pirelli P Zero tires. The front tires are 255/35 R21, and the rear tires are wider with a 285/35 R21 configuration. Both front and rear wheels have Tesla’s larger red-colored performance brake calipers like Brembo brakes.

Interior Changes
Tesla has made two major changes in the interior of the new Model Y Performance. A larger 16″ QHD screen and the new Performance Seats.
“Quiet cabin thanks to premium sound-damping materials & acoustic glass,” Tesla posted on X.
16″ QHD Screen
The 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance comes with a Quad High Definition (QHD) center touchscreen display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution.
According to Tesla, the new QHD screen has 80% more pixels compared to the existing screen in the lower-end Model Y variants.
Reviewer Car Jonas tested it in a showroom Model Y Performance, and he found out that it’s much sharper and responsive compared to the old 15.4″ screen (watch first impressions video below).
Performance Seats

Tesla has designed new sport seats for the Model Y Performance. The changes are not just cosmetic, like the Ludicrous badge; these seats have better lateral support and have extendable thigh support as well.
Tesla describes the new seats as:
- Heated & ventilated sport seats in first row w/ added bolstering & side cushions that hold you in your seat when cornering + powered thigh cushion extenders for extra comfort
- Perforated & heated seats in the back with power recline
