The rumors of Grok coming to Tesla vehicles in the 2025.20 software update didn’t materialize. However, In a new series of X posts, popular Tesla ethical hacker Green (@greentheonly) has leaked some vital information and screenshots of the upcoming Grok integration in Tesla cars.

Grok is an artificially intelligent bot software developed by Elon Musk’s xAI for the purpose of human assistance. Currently, Grok is available on its website at grok.com, as well as mobile apps for both Android and iOS, and is integrated into Musk-owned social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The previous leaked information suggested that Grok would be integrated into Tesla electric vehicles as a conversational AI assistant. Interestingly, the new leaks by Green confirm this information. Let’s dive into the leaked information about Grok in Tesla vehicles feature by feature.

Requires Premium Connectivity

Using Grok in Tesla vehicles will require Premium Connectivity. Tesla’s Premium Connectivity feature costs $9.99 per month or $99 a year, plus applicable tax. This allows Tesla owners to use streaming apps and premium features on the vehicle’s cellular data without the need for a Wi-Fi connection.

However, according to hacker Green, Grok will always require the Premium Connectivity package and will most probably not work on Wi-Fi if Premium Connectivity is not active on the Tesla vehicle.

Three AI Assistant Voices

As I’ve mentioned above, Grok in Tesla vehicles is going to be a conversational AI assistant. To make the conversations more interesting, Tesla cars will have the following three different voice options or modes for voice communication with Grok (also see screenshot above).

  • Ara – Upbeat Female Voice
  • Rex – Calm Male Voice
  • Gork – Lazy Male Voice

A few weeks ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had his X moniker changed to ‘Gorklon Rust’ — obviously, he was hinting at something or multiple things to come as he loves easter eggs.

Four Grok Personas

Looking at the screenshots obtained by Green, the Grok AI chat and conversation bot in Tesla vehicles will have the following four personas for each voice type:

  • Assistant
  • Language Tutor
  • Therapist
  • Storyteller

NSFW & Kids Mode

Another screenshot of the Tesla Grok integration confirms that the automaker has integrated a Kids Mode and NSFW (Not Safe For Work).

HW3 / AI3 Compatibility

According to Green, Tesla vehicles with the legacy Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) computer will be able to run Grok.

However, there are two different groups of Tesla HW3 vehicles. One group has the older Intel Atom GPU and the other has the newer AMD Ryzen APU to run the Media Control Unit (MCU) or the car infotainment system.

Grok availability for Tesla HW3 vehicles with the AMD Ryzen processor is confirmed but owners who have Intel Atom-based Tesla MCUs might not get Grok on their cars.

Newer vehicles with the Tesla HW4/AI4 processor are definitely going to get Grok in them.

Expected Software Version

The Grok integration leak suggests that the Tesla update with this app is coming sooner than later. The screenshots suggest that Tesla is almost done with the development, some final touches might be remaining.

As we mentioned earlier, the 2025.20 update was rumored to have Grok. However, a subversion point release software update of this main branch might bring Grok to Tesla cars. Tesla might also roll out an entire main branch in the coming weeks or months to deploy the Grok AI assistant in Tesla vehicles.
