Tesla (TSLA) has expanded the geofence area for its Robotaxi autonomous ride-hailing service in Houston, Texas. Interestingly, the new map has taken the shape of a rocket, most likely SpaceX’s Starship.
Easter eggs are built into the Tesla DNA because the founder and long-reigning CEO, Elon Musk, belongs to the arcade video game era. And in the past, he has acknowledged that Tesla’s Easter eggs stem from his deep emotional connection to video games he played as a teenager.
The automaker shared the new geofence map for Houston on X. The official image also shows a clear difference between the old and the newly expanded Tesla Robotaxi Service geofence area.
Before today’s expansion, Houston had the smallest Tesla Robotaxi geofence area. It was just 24.9 sq miles.
Tesla has expanded Houston’s geofence area by about 10 times (~916%), though it hasn’t released an official figure for the exact square miles of the new map updated on October 27. The new geofence stretches from the northwest through downtown Houston and Bellaire.
Whether intentional or coincidental, the shape of the new Houston Tesla Robotaxi geofence is very interesting. It looks like a Starship spacecraft.

Tesla is constantly expanding its geofence for Robotaxi Service. Just last week, Tesla expanded the Austin, Texas, map ahead of the 2026 US Grand Prix Formula 1 event.
Tesla’s expansion of the Houston geofence area comes close to an expected Cybercab launch in the city. Currently, Tesla is operating its autonomous ride-hailing service using Model Y Robotaxis.
Comparing visually, you can fit about 8-10 old map sections (marked with white lines in the diagram above) inside the new Starship-shaped Houston geofence.
Tesla Robotaxis Surpass 1000 Units in Texas
In our last report, Tesla Robotaxi vehicles surpassed 500 units in the last week of September. About a month later, Tesla has registered more than 1,000 Cybercabs and Model Y Robotaxis in Texas.
As of this writing today, the Tesla Robotaxi fleet in Texas has grown to 1,051 vehicles (source: TexasAVTracker.com/tesla). Of that total, 544 are Cybercabs, and 507 are Model Ys.
One more interesting development is that Tesla is closing in on Waymo in robotaxi numbers in Texas. Tesla has 1,051 robotaxis in Texas vs. Waymo’s 1,207. Tesla will most probably lead Waymo in the coming few weeks.
Tesla sent a large fleet of Robotaxis and Cybercabs to Houston, where it was spotted in a public parking lot. This clearly signaled that the automaker will soon launch the Cybercab in Houston. However, Tesla has first expanded the geofence to lay the groundwork.
