Tesla (TSLA) started rolling out the 2025.26 software update yesterday with new features, especially the integrated Grok AI chatbot.

Looks like Tesla boss Elon Musk gave an accurate timeline on the deployment of Grok to Tesla vehicles in his announcement last week.

As of this writing, the rollout of the Grok-integrated 2025.26 update is limited to the original early access Tesla owners. This group consists of Tesla YouTubers and social media influencers. The early demos of Grok in Tesla cars have already created a buzz online.

According to Tesla software tracking websites TeslaFi.com and Tessie.com, only 0.2% of the Tesla fleet has received the 2025.26 software update as of now.

Grok Beta in 2025.26

It’s worth remembering that Tesla has integrated Grok in its technologically advanced electric vehicles as Beta software as of now. The automaker is testing the scope and impact of Grok AI in Tesla cars.

Teslas are the first-ever cars to have an AI robot integrated into them. Grok AI is separate from the car’s own Autopilot Full Self-Driving (FSD) AI. Grok cannot command the car’s driving behavior or override existing voice commands related to the car’s functions and safety.

2025.26 is the first Tesla software update that deployed Grok to non-employee Tesla owner vehicles. As of now, it’s hard to predict when Tesla and xAI decide to bring Grok out of Beta in Tesla cars — it can be anywhere from months to a couple of years.

Grok has various modes and AI voices that we listed in one of our previous report based on the leaked screenshots.

Grok Demos

Early access users got a chance to test and demonstrate Grok’s AI functionality in their cars. Since this is currently a fresh new feature and is available to a limited number of Tesla owenrs, the test reviews are also limited.

When Chuck asked Grok in his HW4/AI4 Tesla Model Y to tell him about chicken burgers nearby, Grok told him the locations, brands, and summary of reviews. However, when told to show the location on the screen, Grok asked Chuck to use the car’s navigation.

Grok Beta in Teslas currently can’t issue commands to the car’s system.

Grok Version

Since Grok is in Beta mode in Tesla vehicles (AMD Ryzen GPU-based Model S, X, 3, Y, and Cybertruck), Tesla owners expected an older version of Grok. However, Grok AI itself told an owner that it’s the latest version, which is Grok 4.

Tesla influencer and FSD beta tester Chuck Cook asked multiple questions from Grok in his Model Y to confirm the version of Grok installed in Tesla vehicles. Finally, it confirmed that it’s Grok 4 (video below).
