Watch Tesla FSD Beta 10.11.1 handle a roundabout in Canada

Anxious and excited, Tesla owners from Canada had to wait around 1.5 years to start getting Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Beta software for testing. Tesla started rolling out FSD Beta Canada at the end of March and still, it’s only available to a very limited number of Tesla owners with the best safety scores (at least 99 as we have observed).

Luckily, my old-time Tesla friend Ian Pavelko is one of the chosen ones from Montreal, Canada to test drive FSD Beta in the country. Ian has one of the earliest Tesla Model 3 cars he calls Magneto.

He was able to download FSD Beta 10.11.1 (firmware software version 2022.4.5.20) last Tuesday (29th March). And since, he has been sharing his testing experience from time to time.

Ian aka Mad Hungarian performed his first FSD Beta test drive on the streets of the suburbs of Montreal. Since it was his first time, he intervened a couple of times when it was not actually needed. He is also very cautious and has his hands on the steering wheel to take over from Autopilot at any time.

Ian’s first impressions were definitely good about FSD Beta and it has continued to impress him and other testers in Canada for the last week of its limited availability in the country.

For a bit of a difficult test, someone asked Ian if FSD Beta can handle a roundabout? So, he took his Model 3 with FSD Beta 10.11.1 to a roundabout near his hometown to give it a try.

Since FSD Beta is new in Canada, I was not expecting it to handle the roundabout very confidently. Elon Musk has previously said that the streets of Canada are different from the United States in several aspects, so the FSD AI has ample experience in the US but not in Canada yet.

But looking at how well it handled the roundabout in this video has really impressed — let’s watch.

People familiar with the location say that this is a busy roundabout, especially on weekends when people rush towards nearby restaurants and Costco, etc. Ian said that handling this roundabout with confidence and grace, FSD Beta has genuinely impressed him.

Talking about Tesla’s further expansion plans of FSD Beta in Canada, Elon Musk said, “We take a very cautious approach to safety. As we confirm functionality on Canadian roads, the beta will expand”.
