Tesla has started the wide rollout of its over-the-air (OTA) software update version 2026.8. This new firmware update is going out to Tesla’s global fleet of cars.

According to the Tesla software tracking statistics data from TeslaFi and Tessie, around 10-12% of Tesla owners across the globe have installed the 2026.8 update.

The ‘2026’ in the firmware version refers to the current year 2026, and ‘8’ refers to the 8th week of the year when this software branch was developed. As of this writing, the 2026.8 update rollout is expanding to Tesla cars in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East (official release notes below).

Tesla update 2026.8 brings the Comfort Braking feature to the new Model Y Juniper (model year 2025 and above). This feature makes routine braking feel smoother than before.

In the history of the automotive industry, it’s amazing to see that Tesla can even tweak human-initiated braking via a free OTA software update and enhance the braking/driving experience and safety. Tesla might roll out Comfort Braking to the rest of the vehicle lineup in future updates if needed.

The 2026.8 software update also brings improvements to the in-car Spotify app and on-screen navigation. It also adds a new British accent voice named Leo to the list of Grok AI Assistants. This new Grok AI persona is added for Tesla owners living in the UK or who prefer English with a British accent.

In addition to North America, Gork was rolled out to Tesla cars in Europe last month with the 2026.2.6 software update.

In the 2026.8 software update, Cybertruck gets a unique new feature. Tesla Cybertruck now issues a warning if it detects vehicles, humans, bicycles, etc., in its blind spot, even when it’s parked. This is done to improve safety as the Cybertruck is a large truck and has wide doors that can hit objects that are not visible to the human eye (refer to release notes below for details).
