But nature doesn’t care about historical product unveilings. It has a will of its own. High winds and flood alerts in Austin, Texas, have caused a delay in the next-gen Roadster’s unveiling event.
According to Tesla’s latest announcement update, the next-generation Roadster will now be unveiled on Thursday, October 15.
The automaker made a heartfelt announcement about rescheduling the hyped event. Tesla wrote on X:
Roadster event update
We’ve been tracking the weather closely with local meteorologists, but given the severe conditions predicted & because this event can only be held outdoors, we’ve made the difficult decision to reschedule.

“Due to high winds, the new Roadster demo is postponed by 2 weeks,” Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk also confirmed.
According to AccuWeather, Austin, TX, residents should watch out for floods on October 1 and 2. However, to be completely safe, Tesla has delayed the event by 2 weeks, as weather can be unpredictable sometimes.
Tesla employees from its HQ in California and other parts of the world will attend the Tesla Roadster unveiling. So, it’s critical to ensure attendees’ safety and keep the event running as smoothly as possible.
Elon Musk has to demonstrate his long-promised SpaceX thrusters at this final unveiling of the new Tesla Roadster. For this ultra-fast acceleration demo, the event should be organized outdoors only. Another reason to postpone the event.
The hype around the Tesla Roadster’s unveiling is because of two reasons:
SpaceX thrusters that will reduce the Tesla Roadster’s 0-60 mph acceleration time to around 1 second
The delay in the Tesla Roadster’s unveiling will likely increase interest and hype even more. Tesla enthusiasts are still trying to decode the teaser image the automaker released in last month’s announcement of an October 1 unveiling.
Following are a couple of renderings based on the teaser and Elon Musk’s historical comments, such as that the thrusters will be behind the license plate.
However, this is impractical and most probably illegal in the real world, as firing the thrusters would require the license plate to flip upward.
Today was supposed to be Roadster day. Tesla pushed Waco to Oct 15 because the event has to be outdoors. That only matters if the demo isn’t just a car rolling onto a stage.
