An interesting new Tesla Cybercab feature has been spotted ahead of its Austin, Texas, launch early next month.
Yesterday evening on the streets of Austin, two Cybercab robotaxis were seen with different front light-bar colors (video below). Eureka, new feature discovered.
Tesla (TSLA) is using an RGB (Red Green Blue) color palette in Cybercab’s front light bar to show different colors when picking up ride-hailing customers.
Since the Cybercab is not yet launched for customer rides, Tesla staff were seen riding in the passenger seats of these Cybercab robotaxi vehicles.
Another interesting thing to notice, if you look closely at the following video, is that these Cybercab units have steering wheels.
Tesla will be launching Cybercab robotaxi service with fully autonomous (geofenced) operation, and these units won’t have a steering wheel (as iterated by Elon Musk multiple times.
Seeing steering wheels on Cybercabs so close to their first launch in the City of Austin, TX, looks a bit odd.
Last year, auto industry veteran and car teardown expert Sandy Munro predicted that Tesla will, at some point, put the same vehicle on sale with a steering wheel (Model 2).
This will be the most affordable Tesla electric car that customers can drive and also use Unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) when they do not wish to drive.

Use of Cybercab Front Light Bar Colors
Of course, Tesla has a useful purpose in integrating a front light bar that can glow in different colors. You can easily identify a specific robotaxi car on the road with its unique color.
The RGB color space has 16.7 million colors. So, Tesla will never be short of unique colors for the front light bar. It stays white in normal circumstances.
In a real-world scenario, where you have 4 to 5 customers waiting for their Tesla Cybercab at the same spot, how would they identify which one is theirs?
Tesla has solved it intelligently: the color on the front light bar will exactly match the Robotaxi mobile app as the Cybercab arrives for a pickup.
All customers will be able to identify their specific Cybercab by matching the front light bar color to the one shown on the Robotaxi app.
In the limited sightings so far, three colors, i.e., orange, purple, and aqua blue, have been seen on the front light bars of the Tesla Cybercab vehicles.
This is not officially announced yet, but having covered Tesla for almost 10 years, this is my best guess. Tesla CEO Elon Musk will unveil more features in the upcoming September 3, 2026 Cybercab launch event.
