Legendary car enthusiast and TV personality Jay Leno brought a Tesla Model Y SUV to his garage for a review, he thinks that electric vehicles are now the future and gas cars, especially the exotic ones like the Lamborghinis and Ferraris will soon be used in the same way we use horses today, i.e. for pleasure.

Jay Leno covered the Tesla Cybertruck in a recent episode of his show on CNBC Prime that airs by the name of ‘Jay Leno’s Garage’ — the remarks about electric vehicles coming from a guy who has virtually driven every great car the world has seen, shouldn’t be taken lightly, he said:

I enjoy my internal comustion stuff, you know it’s funny, to me cars like Ferraris, Lamborghini in the same way that peole use horses now. In this country in the 1800s horses would work to death, literally drop-dead in the streets, now there are more horses in American than they’ve ever been and most of them are for pleasure, people enjoy them and they ride them.

So, electric cars are the future for day to day driving and for most of the usual needs because they are quiet, pollution-free and require very less amount of maintenance — actually according to the analysis of a Tesla Model 3 owner, his car cost him 50 cents a day over the period of two years or 50,000 miles which also equates to $8 per 1,000 miles of maintenance cost.

Jay Leno drove the latest Tesla Model Y Performance and finds it on par with any sports car in terms of acceleration (0-60 mph in just 3.5s), faster than any muscle car from the 60s while still having a huge cargo space for fun family trips, not to forget that Teslas are one of the safest cars built ever (NHTSA lowest probability of injury tests).

Besides all this, the Tesla Model Y is equipped with futuristic software, gets free software and video game updates via the WiFi or cellular connection of the car. And if the owner has bought the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, this vehicle might just turn into a robotaxi in the future that could make money for the owner while he does not need the car for his personal use.

Tesla Model Y heat pump is also earns praise from Jay Leno as this newly added innovative hardware improves the car’s energy consumption efficiency and the ability to fight cold weather issues that the previous Teslas faced are now history.

Jay Leno and Elon Musk have a long history and shared passion of cars, Tesla CEO first appeared on his show 13 years ago when he made the first Tesla Roadsters and wanted to convince the world that electric cars can be as good as or even better than the gas-powered cars, today Tesla’s success has proven his point.
