Tesla is preparing to roll out its next over-the-air (OTA) software update version 2024.20 to its global fleet of electric cars.
Luckily, the 2024.20 Release Notes (read below) were leaked beforehand to give us the details of what’s coming in this Tesla software update.
Tesla pushed this year’s biggest feature-packed software aka the Spring Update (2024.14) last month. It was followed by the Cybertruck off-roading features update v2024.14.3 a few weeks later.
After these massive updates, Tesla has now focused on small issues that needed to be addressed. Tesla improved Adaptive (Matrix) Headlights, Hot Weather HVAC, Beach Buggy Racing 2 video game, and unspecified security updates in OTA version 2024.20 firmware update.
This update is currently rolled out to employee cars only. According to Tesla software tracking website TeslaFi.com, as of this writing, there are 0% installs or pending installations of the 2024.20 update out of a total of 20,094 data-contributing vehicles.
Tesla Update 2024.20 Release Notes
Adaptive Headlight Improvements
Tesla first introduced the Matrix LED Adaptive Headlights in 2021 Model Y. Tesla engineers demonstrated the capabilities of these upgraded headlights by writing TESLA on the wall by programming the each individual LED.
Tesla Model S and Model X also received the updated LED Matrix Headlights in the 2021 design refresh.
Earlier this year, Tesla enabled Adaptive High Beams for Model S, X, 3, and Y in the update version 2024.8.7 (demo video below).
The Adaptive High Beams feature automatically determines when and where to use high beams and protects the oncoming traffic from getting dazzled.
In the upcoming 2024.20 update, Tesla has enabled adaptive headlights for curves as the car is cornering on highways. The vehicle will automatically decide the distance needed to be illuminated as the vehicle takes on curves and turns at night.
Because of regulatory hurdles in the United States, Tesla Adaptive Headlights features is only deployed in Europe for now.
Headlights now adapts for curves in the road ahead of you and illuminate farther when you’re driving on a motorway.
Enable these features in your vehicle settings at Lights > Adaptive Headlights.
Hot Weather Improvements
As this year’s summer is reaching its peak, Tesla decided to release a relevant software update that improves cabin cooling according to outside weather conditions. While the Tesla OTA update v2024.20 cools down the vehicle interior faster, the automaker also reduced the noise that the HVAC system creates inside the cabin.
This release includes AUTO HVAC improvements for hot weather. The A/C cools down the cabin faster, and maintains comfort at lower noise levels.
