Tesla started the wide release of its over-the-air (OTA) software update version 2025.38.9 yesterday. This new update contains only minor bug fixes, as the release notes don’t mention any other enhancements or new features.

After studying software rollout data from tracking websites like TeslaFi.com and talking to owners on X (Twitter), it’s clear that the 2025.38.9 update is specific to Tesla vehicles with the HW3 (AI3) computer.

Interestingly, this new update was also released to Cybertruck owners, which is an HW4 (AI4)-based Tesla vehicle (see screenshot below).

The firmware version 2025.38.9 is ahead of the 2025.38.8.5 point release, which was released to some Cybertruck owners bundled with FSD v14.1.5. Cybertruck FSD v14.1.5 is still limited to a select few early-access beta testers.

Skipping the FSD v14.1.5 (2025.38.8.5) point release for general Cybertruck owners is a sign that Tesla is not going to provide them with this specific version of FSD v14.

FSD v14.2 is slated to go for a wide rollout, which is expected to be released just before the Christmas holidays. This FSD v14 update will also include general Cybertrucks in the US and Canada.

Some Cybertrucks are still running on the older 2025.38.8 OTA update. These owners hope to get 2025.38.8.5 (FSD v14.1.5) and experience Tesla FSD v14 on their uniquely designed electric pickup trucks.

Owners of the Tesla Model S, 3, X, and Y got the new 2025.38.9 update, and it’s currently rolling out fast to the global fleet. It might have some undocumented improvements, but no reports have been posted in this regard by the owners.

Tesla update 2025.38.9 has been rolled out to the global fleet of Tesla cars and is not limited to the United States or Canada.
