Tesla (TSLA) started rolling out the new 2025.8 OTA software update’s main branch around 3 weeks ago. However, the automaker pushed multiple updates every few days after that. The latest version is 2025.8.6 as of this writing.

The latest and widely released subversion point release is the 2025.8.6 update. Although the release notes of these updates mention ‘Minor fixes and improvements’, there are subtle but important features deployed in the 2025.8 and its subset of software releases.

One such important feature is the improvement to the ‘Battery Health’ feature. Before the 2025.8 over-the-air (OTA) update, there was a step-by-step procedure to recalibrate your battery.

Tesla also enabled Cybertruck height controls (air suspension adjustment) from your phone app in the 2025.8.4 update (release notes below).

So, what’s the need to recalibrate your battery readings?

With time and miles accumulated, Tesla’s battery management system (BMS) starts showing lower miles of range compared to when the vehicle was new or the advertised range by the manufacturer.

If your Tesla electric car is showing less than expected range as it gets older, you need to recalibrate the battery readings. There’s this old manual method (but it works) and now with the 2025.8 and later software updates, Tesla has made it simpler and easier to recalibrate your battery and the screen will show the proper range.

If you have OTA update 2025.8 or later installed on your Tesla, you can simply go to Controls > Service > Battery Health and the system will attempt to automatically recalibrate your battery and show exact range numbers.

According to the Tesla software tracking website Tessie, around 48.6% of the Tesla vehicle fleet has the 2025.8.6 update installed as of this writing.
