Tesla teases the more affordable Model Y after it was already spotted a few days ago

Tesla (TSLA) posted a teaser video clip of an upcoming vehicle on its official account on X last night. However, the vehicle was spotted in its entirety a few days earlier.

The short video clip shows illuminated headlights of a vehicle while the car itself is in the shadow. Everyone already guessed it correctly: it’s the upcoming stripped-down, affordable version of the Model Y mid-sized electric SUV.

Tesla is on a spree of sharing teasers as the company enters this year’s last quarter. Just yesterday, a teaser of a fast-spinning fan was posted on X by the automaker, which is most probably a downforce turbine for the next-gen Roadster.

The Model Y teaser, however, doesn’t create much curiosity except for the final price of the vehicle. It’s expected to be around $35,000, but it should be even lower, IMO.

In the United States, Tesla already has three variants of the new Model Y up for sale. Tesla Model Y: Long Range RWD, Long Range AWD, and Model Y Performance.

The launch of the new, more affordable Model Y is going to add a fourth variant to the vehicle lineup. Tesla is expected to trim down the Model Y’s interior and exterior features (some observations from the spotting below). Removing many of the luxury options to make it reasonably priced for the masses.

With the introduction of the new Model Y, Tesla is attempting to address the market segment currently captured by Japanese cars such as the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. The masses will have an American-made electric vehicle option with a widely available charging network.

Affordable Model Y Spotted

A Tesla enthusiast spotted the lower-cost Tesla Model Y Juniper prototype around Giga Texas, the automaker’s global HQ, and the largest US manufacturing factory for Model Y and the Cybertruck.

Looking closely at the front fascia of the trimmed-down Tesla Model Y, we can see that Tesla has completely changed the front bumper and headlight setup.

In the existing models, the upper strip is daytime running lights (DRL) and the headlights are installed under them (in the bumper). However, Tesla has removed the DRL strip and installed the headlights in the conventional position.

The design of the front fascia has also been simplified. Looking at the teaser, some X users say that they like the headlights of the new, more affordable Model Y (slimmer and in the usual expected location).

However, the following image of this stripped down Tesla Model Y shows no significant changes on the rear fascia. However, the rear light looks a bit different, but this could be the lighting.
