The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) revealed its fleet of Tesla Cybertruck patrol EV pickup trucks yesterday. The Las Vegas PD has acquired ten customized bulletproof Cybertrucks to add to its patrolling fleet.

Earlier in February, LVMPD Chief Sheriff Kevin McMahill announced the addition of Cybertruck units to the department’s patrol cars. According to the Sheriff, in addition to the patrol trucks, SWAT Cybertrucks will also join the fleet (not yet added).

In his announcement from the February press conference, he called these patrol Cybertrucks “bada** machines”. Sheriff Kevin McMahill also confirmed that these ten Cybertruck units are donated by a “generous individual”.

LVMPD and its Chief shared multiple pictures, videos, and information of these modified Cybertrucks on Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Customization, Bulletproofing, and Features

The LVMPD Cybertrucks are customized, a it took several months and a lot of hard work to make these units capable of fighting crime in the Las Vegas Metro area.

These Cybertruck patrol units are custom-engineered and upgraded by UP.FIT, a sister company of Unplugged Performance who specializes in modified Tesla cars for track-level performance.

Tesla Cybertruck’s stainless steel door panels have ballistic protection right from the factory. So, UP.FIT and LVMPD had to bulletproof the windshield and windows of the patrol Cybertruck for complete ballistic protection. This enables the Cybertruck to fight crime even better and protect the police officers as well.

Factory-fitted plastic panels, like the front and rear bumpers of the Cybertruck are replaced with reinforced steel panels for enhanced protection. The front steel bumper of the LVMPD patrol Cybertruck is equipped with 11-inch off-road lights and police lighting. It comes with a steel bullbar.

Unplugged Performance (UP.FIT) has replaced the hood top (frunk cover) with a carbon fiber panel, which houses a 50-inch off-road light bar. A joystick inside the LVMPD Cybertruck patrol car controls both of the front off-road light bars (direction).

The factory wheels are replaced with lightweight forged wheels by UP.FIT on these patrol Cybertrucks.

The additional wiring harness on these Las Vegas Police Cybertrucks is completely concealed. The upper body frame of the Cybertruck was removed to install the wiring; therefore, the wiring on these trucks is as if it was from done by Tesla.

“This is basically, if Tesla built a factory police vehicle, this is what it would be,” UP.FIT founder Ben Schaffer said on the LVMPD Cybertruck patrol units unveiling day.
