A large number of Tesla Cybercab robotaxis have been spotted in Houston, Texas. This is the first time that this many Cybercabs have been seen in the largest city of Texas.
Tesla (TSLA) is already operating its geofenced Robotaxi Service in Houston, Texas. However, Houston’s geofence is the smallest compared to Dallas and Austin.
The autonomous ride-hailing provider (Tesla) expanded the geofences in Austin and Dallas late last month, but Houston hasn’t seen an expansion since the Tesla Robotaxi Service launched in April 2026.
According to estimates, Houston has only a 21-square-mile geofence, while Dallas and Austin have 81 and 264 square miles, respectively.
Population-wise, Houston is Texas’s largest city. Houston’s population is more than double that of Austin (10M vs. 2.3M; source). However, Tesla hasn’t been able to expand the Robotaxi Service area in this city, which has enormous potential.
This is likely to change in the coming weeks and months, as many Tesla Cybercabs and Model Y Robotaxis have recently been spotted in Houston, Texas.
The interesting part of this Cybercab Houston sighting is that, according to the video poster, all these Cybercabs have steering wheels. If there’s a steering wheel installed in a Tesla Cybercab, it’s most probably an engineering test vehicle.
In the past, Tesla clearly marked test vehicles with a “Cybercab Tesla Engineering Prototype” decal.
According to Aryan, some of the Cybercabs in this lot are the advanced versions with the integrated Starlink receivers. The rest are standard versions, including testing cars.
Currently, Austin, Texas, is the only city in the world where Tesla is operating its driverless Cybercab autonomous ride-hailing service.
The other five cities, i.e., Houston and Dallas in Texas, and Orlando, Miami, and Tampa in Florida, only have the Model Y Robotaxis operating unsupervised.

Possible Cyebrcab Launch in Houston, TX
Tesla has shipped a large number of Cybercabs and Model Y Robotaxis to Houston, Texas. The mix of test, regular, and Starlink-enabled Cybercabs suggests the automaker is keen to accelerate testing and validation in Houston.
The geofence map of Houston, Texas, is still very small. Operating Cybercabs in a small ~21-square-mile area is the safest choice for customer rides.
Tesla will expand the map as FSD v15 AI learns more about the city’s traffic and dynamics, further enhancing public safety.
The automaker should be able to launch Cybercab in Houston, Texas, before the end of the year. But I will not be surprised if it happens in the next few weeks.
