Tesla (TSLA) has officially begun its Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, without a human safety monitor present in the vehicle.

Now, the Model Y Juniper Robotaxis are providing pick-up and drop-off service in the large geofenced area in Austin, TX, autonomously.

A Tesla Robotaxi ride-hailing user posted a video from the backseat of a Tesla Robotaxi showing no safety monitors or safety personnel present in the front seats. The vehicle picked him up and dropped him off at the destination, all by itself.

The official Tesla Robotaxi account on X confirmed that the tech & AI automaker has now started the service without any human supervision in Austin, Texas.

Tesla began testing Robotaxi without human oversight in Austin last month. A Model Y Robotaxi was spotted without any human present on the front seats in Austin, TX.

Around Christmas, Tesla’s Head of AI, Ashok Elluswamy also shared a video of a Robotaxi driving itself in Austin, the city where the company’s global headquarters is located.

Tesla Robotaxis are running on a different version of Full Self-Driving AI vision software than customer cars, which are on various point releases of FSD v14.

The automaker has achieved Unsupervised Full Self-Driving at least in a geofenced are in huge city such as Austin. Tesla AI teams are constantly striving to achieve Unsupervised FSD for general use that can handle any scenario and situation.

A limited form of Unsupervised FSD on Robotaxis is Tesla’s early success in achieving greater success in this technology. Unlike Waymo, Tesla cars do not need a jumble of extruded sensors and equipment to run its Robotaxis autonomously.

Removing safety monitors from its Robotaxi vehicles suggests Tesla’s strong confidence in its AI vision technology. Tesla FSD uses pure vision and some audio signals for emergency vehicles to drive cars on city streets and highways.

San Francisco Bay Area is the other location where Tesla is operating its Robotaxi service. However, Tesla has to go through another phase of extensive scruitny and approvals before the safety monitors can be removed in California.
