Tesla FSD gets approved in the third European country

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has announced that it has obtained approval to run its cars using Full Self-Driving AI technology on Estonia’s public roads. Estonia is the third European country to allow Tesla to operate FSD on its roads.

Earlier this month, Tesla FSD also got approved in Lithuania. Last month, Tesla made a major breakthrough by getting approval for Full Self-Driving in the Netherlands.

The approvals obtained from individual countries are based on the regulations and procedures set by the Dutch authority RDW. Tesla FSD still has a long way to go before FSD AI can autonomously roam the entire European region with a single approval.

The FSD approval came in yesterday, Tesla announced via its official account on X. However, the FSD software rollout hadn’t begun at the time of the announcement. Tesla owners in Estonia should expect to get the FSD download notification starting today.

As we reported earlier, Tesla has now discontinued the outright purchase of FSD. Now, a €99 per month subscription is the only option available to Tesla owners who haven’t previously bought the FSD package for a one-time payment.

Since the chances of Tesla FSD getting to Europe have been bleak in the past few years, it’s obvious that not many Tesla owners in this region bought the Full Self-Driving package, which was priced at €7,500 before discontinuation.

Even in the United States and Canada, where FSD has been in use for a few years now, the ratio of outright purchase of the AI self-driving software has been low. The subscription-based FSD use is the most popular option among Tesla owners.

In the Q1 2026 Earnings Call, Tesla disclosed that the number of paid FSD users globally has reached 1.3 million users. The majority of these are subscription-based users. Despite discontinuation in some markets, the outright purchase of FSD increases 7% in the first quarter.

There is one more problem: Tesla owners with the legacy Hardware 3 (HW3) computer will not get the new FSD v14 updates. Tesla is currently only rolling out FSD v14’s point releases to Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4)-equipped Teslas.
