Even after the launch and multiple point releases, Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14 software is still behind the Robotaxi version, which is limited to company-owned vehicles.

However, some features from the Robotaxi FSD version (exact firmware version unknown) are trickling down to the latest point releases of FSD v14 (v14.1.3 and v14.1.4).

One such interesting feature is the Robotaxi-style wiper function that wipes the windscreen multiple times in one attempt. Tesla innovated this method to clean the forward-facing Autopilot cameras installed under the windshield and behind the rearview mirror.

These forward cameras are the most critical when it comes to the vision ahead of a Tesla vehicle. If these cameras are occluded for any reason, such as rain, snow, dust, stains, or debris, etc., the vehicle’s ability to look forward becomes limited.

To clear the visual obstacles from the front cameras, Tesla changed the windshield wiper mechanism in Robotaxi mode (video below). After the launch event on 22nd June, Tesla revealed that the Robotaxi vehicles are using a special version of Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, which is not currently rolled out for non-employee Tesla car owners.

The Robotaxi FSD version has this special wiper function that focuses on cleaning cameras with extra wipes. To further clean the Autopilot cameras, Tesla automatically sprays washer fluid on the windscreen plus shows the function in progress on the screen UI (videos below).

Tesla owners whose vehicles are on FSD v14.1.3 and FSD v14.1.4 are reporting getting this new wiper function. This new cleaning function ensures that the forward vision of the car stays intact as dirt, stains, and residue build up on the outside of the windshield.

According to the FSD v14 official release notes, if residue builds inside the windscreen and in front of the cameras, hindering the car’s Autopilot vision, the owner should take the vehicle to a Tesla Service Center to fix the issue.
