Tesla to end the free FSD Transfer Program soon

Tesla (TSLA) car owners in the US and Canada are getting SMS and emails that they have a limited time left to transfer their existing Full Self-Driving package to their new vehicle.

The automaker has previously given estimated timelines to end the free FSD Transfer Promotion program. However, this time, Tesla has given March 31, 2026, as the end date for FSD transfers.

When a Tesla owner messaged the company’s customer support number for how long FSD Transfers are available, he received a reply that confirmed the due date is March 31st.

The end of FSD Transfers comes just after Elon Musk’s announcement that the outright purchase of Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) will end on February 14th. After that, Tesla FSD (Supervised) will only be available as a subscription.

Tesla began the FSD Transfers Program in 2023. Tesla owners of older vehicles with legacy AI hardware (HW3) demanded to transfer the Full Self-Driving package to their new Teslas.

More and more Tesla owners asked the automaker and CEO Elon Musk to enable the transfer of FSD from their old vehicle to the new one. Elon Musk first allowed it for a limited time. The promotion ended multiple times during the last couple of years.

However, last year, Tesla reinstated the FSD Transfer Promotion that’s valid until 31st March 2026.

It’s interesting that, while Tesla is informing individual customers about the end of FSD Transfers, the company’s official support website now confirms the end date of the program, i.e., 31st March 2026.

The above screenshot from Tesla’s support website mentions “Free Full Self-Driving (Supervised) Transfer”. In the future, the tech & AI-based automaker might charge a fee for FSD transfers, but this is just pure speculation at this point.

Since Tesla is migrating to a subscription-only FSD program, FSD Transfers will be irrelevant in the future.

However, there’s a large number of legacy Tesla vehicle owners who bought the Full Self-Driving and are not yet ready buy a new Tesla. These owners will be affected by the discontinuation of the FSD Transfer Program.
