Strange new vehicle frame spotted at Giga Texas, as Elon Musk teases a Tesla Van

Connecting the dots isn’t often easy, especially when it comes to revealing Tesla’s secrets.

A strange new vehicle frame was spotted at Giga Texas just two days before Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk hinted that a Tesla van is coming.

When an influencer asked Elon Musk on X to make a minivan, Musk replied, “Something way cooler than a minivan is coming“. However, he didn’t explain the features or design of this upcoming Tesla EV any further.

Around the same time, at Giga Texas, during a drone coverage, Tesla YouTuber Joe Tegtmeyer’s cameras captured a special delivery to the factory. A vehicle frame was seen in an open wooden crate.

As Joe posted the pictures of this frame on X, an interesting discussion started on which vehicle frame this is. Some think it’s the larger Moel Y L, which Musk said will not be launched in the US. We will try to decipher the reality of this loan vehicle frame with the help of illustration and imagination.

Some Tesla fans think that the automaker imported a Model Y L frame from China to work on it at Giga Texas. The other lot, including me, thinks that this is Tesla’s Cybervan body frame.

Last year, in its Master Plan Part IV video, Tesla teased a few toy-sized models of a Cybertruck-type van or an SUV. The body frame seen in the above photo is most likely an early design; not even a complete prototype has been built yet.

This new vehicle seems to have a 3rd-row seat. Since the larger Model X electric SUV production has been discontinued, Tesla might offer a van-type 6-seat electric vehicle to increase its vehicle sales.

Let’s take a look at the following comparison diagram, in which I’ve attempted to highlight the differences between this body frame and a Tesla Model Y L (long-wheelbase) SUV.

As you can see in the diagram above, there are multiple visible differences between the body frame seen at Giga Texas and the Model Y L 6-seat SUV. However, this frame is covered with a plastic sheet; therefore, many details are hidden.

The hood/truck looks smaller compared to a Model Y L. The headlight/DRL space intrudes much more into the wheel well and is wider compared to the Model Y Juniper’s light strip width.

The rear quarter window appears larger, and the rear window above the 3rd-row seems much higher than that of a Model Y L. The trunk/rear area ends abruptly compared to a Model Y. This is the most obvious clue that what we’re witnessing is a Tesla Cybervan.

If this is a Tesla Van, it clearly has a 3rd-row seat as well. However, with a van-like design and a lower cost of production, it might be much cheaper than a Model Y L when it becomes available for sale.
