After all, Tesla’s VP of AI, Ashok Elluswamy, wasn’t wrong when he recently said, “The streets won’t be the same anymore.”
In our previous Cybercab report, we highlighted Unsupervised Cybercabs roaming the streets of Austin, Texas.
However, as the launch approaches, Cybercabs have started flooding the city’s streets even more since yesterday. In some areas, as many as 5-6 Cybercabs have been spotted together (videos below).
Interestingly, at an intersection, 4 Cybercabs stopped at a traffic light and proceeded in different directions as the green signal turned on. These cabs apparently also picked up customers (they looked like Tesla employees to me).
This may be an intentional move by Tesla to build hype around the upcoming Cybercab robotaxi launch event on Thursday, September 3.
Austin, Texas, will be the world’s first city where Tesla will add the new 2-seater Cybercab vehicles to its already operational Robotaxi Service.
Just days before the launch event, Tesla has expanded its Robotaxi Service geofence area for Austin. The automaker also expanded the geofence for Dallas, Texas, as well (details below).

Tesla Robotaxi App: Map Geofence Expansion
Tesla (TSLA) has once again expanded the geofence of its Robotaxi Service area in Austin, Texas. Dallas also got an expansion of the service area.
Austin, TX
The tech & AI-based automaker has made this expansion just days ahead of the Cybercab launch. Most probably, Cybercab will also provide autonomous ride-hailing service in this entire area.
This expansion was reflected in the official Tesla Robotaxi mobile app at the end of August. As the Cybercab launch event takes place on Thursday, Tesla will unlock the Cybercab availability in the app for Austin, Texas, ride-hailing customers.
Prior to the most recent update, Tesla Robotaxi covered the entire Austin Metro Area. Now the autonomous ride-hailing provider has expanded it even further.
Tesla expanded the geofence for the Robotaxi Service in Austin toward the north (the eagle-head shape visible in the ‘after’ map in the image above).
According to estimates, this represents a 9% expansion of the geofence area in Austin, Texas. The expansion now includes a noticeable northern lobe farther up the US-183 corridor toward Pflugerville. It incorporates additional neighborhoods north of The Domain (including Mesa Park and nearby residential/commercial districts) that previously sat just outside the boundary.
Dallas, TX
In comparison to Austin, Tesla has significantly increased the geofenced area in Dallas, TX. According to estimates, the Dallas Tesla Robotaxi Service area has more than doubled.
The new expanded service area includes:
- West toward Irving / US-183, now including the I-30 corridor
- South through more of downtown down to I-35E
- Modest extra coverage east/northeast of Highland Park (still short of I-635 and I-45)
Tesla influencer Sawyer Merritt calculated the expansion to be around 158% compared to the last update in June 2026.
Tesla is operating a fully unsupervised robotaxi service in Dallas, Texas. There’s a good chance that the automaker will launch the Cybercab in Dallas soon after the September 3 launch in Austin.
