A new Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing reveals that the SpaceX (SPCX) President and COO intends to sell around $52 million worth of the company’s shares.

SpaceX disclosed Shotwell’s intent to sell SpaceX shares in a new Form 144 filing on the SEC’s website and notified investors and the media via email.

The email hit my inbox just after NASDAQ closed at 4:00 PM Eastern Time on September 22. The email stated: “144 (Report of proposed sale of securities).”

However, it looked interesting, so I proceeded to read the SEC filing, which revealed that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk‘s right-hand, Gwynne Shotwell, aka the Rocket Woman, intends to sell a large volume of the company’s stock (filing PDF below).

According to the Form 144 filing that adheres to Rule 10b5-1 under the Exchange Act, Gwynne Shotwell intends to sell 342,170 shares of SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX).

The market value of these shares as of the filing date (22/09/2026) is $51,958,514.50 (~$52M).

To preemptively mitigate insider trading, company executives must follow certain rules and regulations before selling their company’s shares (see Rule 10b5-1 under the Exchange Act).

According to the SpaceX filing, Gwynne Shotwell has already completed a 6-month holding period (she’s been working at SpaceX for about 24 years).

However, the planned sale of these 342,170 SpaceX shares was already notified to the SEC on June 23, 2026. So, it has been three months since the SEC learned that Gwynne was willing to sell this many SpaceX shares (under Rule 10b5-1).

Since all the legal requirements have been met, Gwynne’s $52 million sale of SpaceX shares should settle today (September 23, 2026).

The June 23 instruction covers up to 585,605 shares, of which Gwynne is currently selling 342,170 (58.4%).

Potential Impact on SpaceX Stock

According to TradingView, SPCX stock fell 0.3% overnight as the news of Gwynne Shotwell’s planned sale of $52M in shares spread.

Space (SPCX) closed at $154.72 yesterday, up 1.89% compared to Monday.

In the past 1 month, SpaceX stock gradually gained traction and is up 14.617% (+$19.72).

It will be interesting to see the impact of a top executive’s large stock sale on the market today (Wednesday, September 23).

Critical Starship Flight 14 Launch Timing

SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell’s sale of the company’s stock came just days before Starship’s 14th launch test.

Musk’s SpaceX plans the next Starship launch on Monday, September 28, 2026.

The hype around Starship Flight 14 will most likely offset the negative impact of Gwynne’s sale of SpaceX stock.
