Tesla revealed the final features, specifications, and pricing of the Cybertruck at its Delivery Event on Thursday last week.
Among the new features that Tesla introduced with the Cybertruck, the additional range-extending battery pack is the most talked about component of Tesla’s electric pickup truck. Actually, it was a surprise for the entire Tesla Community.
The following hours of the Cybertruck Delivery Event presentation by Elon Musk, this feature created confusion for the audience and potential customers of the truck. This was the moment when Musk entered the chat and tried to clear the clouds off the Cybertruck range-extender battery pack.
Tesla shared the following image of this range-extending battery installed on the Cybertruck bed during the presentation and later on on the updated website of the Cybertruck as well.
“Go even further with a Range Extender installed into Cybertruck’s bed, offering up to 470+ miles (EST.) of total range. Installed separately,” the description of the range extender states on Tesla’s website.

The image shows the extended battery pack taking a big chunk of the Cybertruck’s 6-foot-long bed. This range extender battery pack increases the range of the Cybertruck AWD variant by 130 miles to a total of 470 miles (340 + 130 miles).
The higher-end Cyberbeast Cybertruck performance variant gains only 120 miles of extra range with the range-extender to a total of 440 miles (320 + 120 miles).
The estimated cost of the Cybertruck range extender is $16,000. The extra cost of this range-extending battery pack is a matter of concern for the majority of potential Tesla Cybertruck reservation holders and potential customers.
It also takes up considerable space off the truck’s bed. According to Elon Musk, it only takes 1/3 of the Cybertruck bed which equals a 2-foot length. So, the Cybertruck rage extender battery dimensions are 6’x4′.
“Optional pack that fits in about 1/3 of the truck bed. Still room for plenty of cargo,” Musk posted on X (Twitter). “It’s meant for very long trips or towing heavy things up mountains,” he further explained the purpose of the Cybertruck range extender.
At the time of its original reveal in 2019, Elon Musk said that the Cybertruck would have a range of around 500 miles. Reservation holders were expecting a range around this mark. Even after installing an additional $16K battery pack and compromising on the bed’s luggage space, the Cybertruck still scores 30 miles below the 500-mile mark.
Tesla (TSLA) is getting criticized for the Cybertruck’s unexpected low range even by its fans on social media. The range figures of the Cybertruck have disappointed many potential owners.

The bed is 4’X 6′. The images of the range extender we saw where Something like 4’X2′ (1/3 of the bed). If that limit the bed size at 4’X4′, better have a 4X6 but really thight, so we can use all the bed lenght.
