The true story of how FSD V12 helped a Tesla owner reach hospital and saved his life

A Tesla Model Y owner from Asheville, NC shared his amazing experience of how Full Self-Driving V12 helped him get to the hospital when he needed immediate medical attention.

Maxpaul Franklin wrote a post on X (Twitter) that explains how Tesla Autopilot running on FSD V12 advanced driver assistance software drove him to a hospital almost 13 miles away from his home. Maxpaul suffered a mild heart attack with severe dehydration and a blood glucose level of 670.

Although Max owns several luxury cars from Porsche, BMW, Acura, and Cadillac — he didn’t waste a minute deciding which one to choose to reach the hospital in such an emergency — the Tesla Model Y with FSD V12 installed on it.

Max explained how Tesla FSD V12 drove him to the hospital as:

With no time to spare, I turned to my Model Y for assistance. Engaging the new Full Self-Driving feature with a simple double click on the steering column stalk, I was astounded by the results.

Without any intervention, the car skillfully navigated the 13-mile journey from my home to the VA Emergency Room, offering to autonomously park it upon arrival and let me seek immediate medical attention.

Interestingly, both Tesla’s official X company account and Elon Musk reposted the story on the social media platform. These reposts resulted in a massive reach of the story to millions of X users.

Tesla started offering free one-month trials to all Tesla owners in the US and Canada last month. Maxpaul Franklin received his Full Self-Driving (Supervised) update on 1st April (Monday last week). This enabled his car to navigate to the nearby hospital where he received immediate medical attention.

However, the official sharing of the story by Musk and his Tesla (TSLA) has polarized the Tesla enthusiast community. A group thinks that the official endorsement of such a story by Tesla is going to harm the automaker. This can result in an exponential increase in lawsuits against the company.

While the other group is praising the exceptional achievements of Tesla in the field of self-driving artificial intelligence software development. A car driving an owner to the hospital is a rescue story unheard of before. To this group, the future has almost arrived where robot cars can save the lives of their owners.

According to the first group we have mentioned above, Tesla FSD is still a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system. Until it reaches Level 5 full autonomy, Tesla should not encourage people to use it for such medical emergency cases. The 2nd group though is appreciating Elon Musk and Tesla for letting them feel a glimpse of the fantastic future of self-driving cars ahead.

Longtime Tesla owner James Locke wrote:

I believe Tesla FSD is still considered a Level 2 autonomous system. This means that, despite its advanced capabilities, it requires the driver’s engagement and constant monitoring. The in-vehicle warnings are clear, hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, even when FSD is active.

Promoting stories without disclosures where FSD (Supervised) is used in situations not intended, might inadvertently suggest that the technology is ready to handle critical tasks independently.

  1. If this is an advert, fair enough. I hope in ten years time all these fanboys will be reminded of their ignorance.

  2. Or, you’ll be driving an EV, telling everyone that you were into electric cars before Elon Musk was born.
