A Tesla Cybercab robotaxi prototype was spotted at the company’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas yesterday. Interestingly, this time it was not stationary.
The Cybercab prototype was seen making rounds on the north and east sides of Giga Texas followed by a black Tesla Model 3 car. The video and pictures of the Tesla robotaxi were captured by Giga Texas local observer Joe Tegtmeyer during his routine drone coverage of the factory.
The last time we saw the Tesla Cybercab at Giga Texas, it was put on display outside the factory during an employee event last month. This time, it has been seen driving itself around the factory.
Historically, almost all Tesla vehicles have been seen getting tested at Tesla factories. The lates of which have been the Cybertruck and Model 3 Highland being tested at the Fremont factory test track. This usually happens when the vehicle is in some form of prototype stage.
Tesla (TSLA) unveiled the Cybercab robotaxi at a coveted and highly anticipated event at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank California on 10th October 2024. Usually, Tesla shows a single prototype for an upcoming vehicle but the automaker had 19 Cybercab robotaxis present at the unveiling venue.
Tesla has sent multiple Cybercab robotaxi prototypes to its showrooms across the United States. The automaker has put some of these prototypes for testing, validation, and AI training. It’s also possible that Tesla has made more prototypes for the purpose.

Since the side windows are fully tinted and the windshield is also dark, it’s difficult to see if someone is on the driver’s seat. However, it doesn’t make a big difference since the Tesla Cybercab does not have a steering wheel or any pedals like brake or acceleration.
According to Joe, a person was actually riding the vehicle during its testing and apparently had a modified game controller in their hands.
If you looked at the video closely, towards the end of the clip, two forklifts crossed the Cybercab in front of it. The forklifts entered the path of the Cybercab unexpectedly and the vehicle handled it well, braking at the right time and speeding down to let the lifters pass.
Tesla Cybercab robotaxi vehicles are running on the latest Full Self-Driving version 13 (FSD v13). This version is not yet available for non-employee Tesla car owners. FSD v13 is expected to go out to early access users soon according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s recent announcement.
Tesla is putting the Cybercab robotaxi through various scenarios to gain useful data to improve FSD autonomous driving features. FSD v13 is feeding back video and other data to the Cortex supercluster made of 100K Nvidia H100/H200 GPUs at Giga Texas. This massive computing power is expected to help Tesla take FSD to the next level that we will be able to witness in FSD v13.
