Tesla (TSLA) has started releasing FSD v13 to owners of its Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) vehicles in the US & Canada, Tesla’s head of AI Ashok Elluswamy confirmed in an official post on X.

Ashok also gave an update about the pending 2024 Holiday Update on HW4 vehicles — it will still take a few days to roll out as the Tesla software teams are working on it. He wrote:

FSD v13.2.1 is now rolling out wide to AI4 customers! That plus the holiday vehicle software update is coming within a week. Team’s working on a much updated v12.6 for AI3 customers by end of this year.

Merry Christmas

It has been more than 2 weeks since Tesla first dropped the FSD v13 update only to the early-access non-employees. Tesla deployed version 13.2 (2024.39.10) to this limited group. This gave the automaker a chance to receive feedback and data from real-world beta testers. This data then would be used to improve edge cases for safety and various driving scenarios.

FSD v13.2 earned good reviews and received very positive feedback from early-access Tesla owners. The anticipation by HW4 Tesla owners grew day by day as to when Tesla will start the wide release of FSD v13 because there didn’t seem to be a reason to hold it.

At last, Tesla has begun the wide release of FSD v13 for HW4 car owners, beginning with version 13.2.1 (2024.39.15). According to the Full Self-Driving feature release roadmap, Tesla’s initial target for a wide release was FSD v13.3. However, for some reason, the automaker opted to deploy FSD v13.2.1 instead. Perhaps the Christmas holidays are close, and v13.3 might not have been ready in time.

According to Ashok’s brief post, Tesla will be releasing another much awaited Holiday Update 2024 for HW4 cars. The tech automaker released this year’s Holiday Update to HW3 cars last week and HW4 owners still have to wait a few more days to get all the exciting new features and improvements.

HW4 vehicles include Model 3, Y, S, and X made since January 2023 and the Cybertruck since its start of production.

However, Ashok’s announcement also contains some bad news for HW3 car owners. Tesla HW3 cars are not going to get FSD v13 this year, at least. Instead, Tesla is working on pushing FSD v12.6 to these legacy cars, which are currently on FSD v12.5.4.2.

According to the Tesla software tracking website TeslaFi.com data of 19,200 vehicles, FSD v13.2.1 (2024.39.15) has been installed on 615 vehicles as of this writing and 215 installs are pending.

Tesla is quickly upgrading vehicles to the latest FSD 13 version. The rollout should stabilize as the Holiday Update is released, it might be a single bundle coupled with the FSD 13.3 update.
