UK police seized a Cybertruck saying it’s not road-legal in the country

A Tesla Cybertruck was seized by the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) in the UK last week on grounds of its legality to be driven in the country.

The local law enforcement authorities stopped a Cybertruck last Thursday evening (16th Jan) and seized the Tesla electric pickup truck as it has not been given permission to roam in the UK.

The GMP Transport Unit shared the news with the picture of the Cyberbreast variant of the seized Cybertruck on its official Facebook page with the following statement:

Officers from GMP Transport Unit stopped this Tesla Cybertruck in Whitefield last night.

The driver was a permanent UK resident but the vehicle was registered and insured abroad which is prohibited in the UK.

The Tesla Cybertruck is not road legal in the UK and does not hold a certificate of conformity.

Whilst this may seem trivial to some, legitimate concerns exist around the safety of other road users or pedestrians if they were involved in a collision with a Cybertruck.

The vehicle was subsequently seized under S165 of the Road Traffic Act and the driver reported.

According to the Manchester Police, Tesla Cybertruck is not “road legal” in the UK. The US-based EV automaker hasn’t officially launched the Cybertruck in the UK and Europe.

Because of narrow roads and tight turning spaces, a large vehicle such as the Cybertruck is not suitable for UK and European roads. A few years back, Tesla CEO Elon Musk teased a smaller Cybertruck for the European region but this project never came to fruition.

However, recently there has been a rift between the UK government’s policies and Elon Musk’s opinions about them. The vibrant Tesla CEO and now a close advisor to the 47th US President Donald J. Trump, Elon Musk has been very vocal about his thoughts on the laws and policies in the UK.

The Cybertruck impounded by the UK police is a Cyberbeast Tri-Motor top-end variant of the American pickup truck. The owner has wrapped it in a dark grey/black color with a Cyberbeast vinyl pasted on the front.

The basic question in this situation is not why the Cybertruck was seized in Manchester, UK. The interesting part is how this Cybertruck made it that far into the country while it’s not legal to drive it there? This part of the story is not yet disclosed, maybe it comes to light later on, so stay tuned for future updates.
