A Tesla Model 3 spotted probably testing for Unsupervised FSD for the Texas launch in June

Yesterday, a Tesla Model 3 was spotted in Concord, New Hampshire. However, there was something unusual in this sighting of one of the most popular Tesla (TSLA) electric cars.

A Tesla enthusiast was passing by when he saw a white Tesla Model 3 Highland with additional equipment installed. Upon looking closely, an additional camera was installed on the rear window glass. The side repeater camera was also covered with an unknown device.

Interestingly, this Tesla Model 3 seen in New Hampshire had Texas license plates. The additional equipment installed on the vehicle hints that it’s been testing some uncommon functionality, which is most probably Unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD).

A Reddit user posted a few pictures of this Model 3, which is most probably acting as a Cybercab robotaxi testing unit for the internal beta testers.

Tesla vehicles with varying data-gathering and validation equipment are spotted multiple times in the past. Most of these tests were related to Autopilot/FSD or performance-related software validation.

Tesla’s Cybercab robotaxi vehicles don’t have a steering wheel. Therefore, these prototypes are not yet road-legal. Tesla is most probably using Model 3 and Model Y vehicles as test cars for Cybercab autonomous driving tests.

According to some experienced Tesla Community members, the new rear window camera position is exactly where a Cybercab camera is placed. These additional cameras (on both sides) are there to improve Tesla Vision AI for Unsupervised FSD.

Unsupervised FSD / Cybercab Texas-Launch in June

Meanwhile, Tesla confirmed yesterday via its official X account that the launch of Unsupervised FSD and Cybercab service in Austin, Texas, in June is on schedule.

As I started writing this story, Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk once again pressed that Unsupervised FSD will be launched in Austin, TX, in June.

“As I’ve said previously, unsupervised full self-driving Teslas will be carrying passengers in Austin in June and many cities in America by end of year,” Musk wrote on X.

“This will enable passenger cars to increase in utility by roughly half an order of magnitude overnight with a software update,” he further added, quoting an X post that featured American Journalist David Faber’s remarks on his experience of FSD.

Just recently, Tesla investor and CEO of Ark Invest, Cathie Wood, showed confidence in Tesla’s Cybercab robotaxi plans. She said that the success of Tesla Cybercab is going to take the company’s share price to $2,600.

Talking to Jim Cramer on CNBC earlier today, David Faber said:

I had the opportunity to ride in a Tesla this weekend on FSD. It’s worth doing. The steering wheel was not touched. The technology is real. People are driving 100 miles out of New York City and not touching the steering wheel once.
