The US-based electric vehicle maker Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) has launched a never-before-seen offer allowing potential customers to experience a Tesla vehicle for 48 hours.

A 48-hour test drive is an industry first for any automaker. Since Teslas are technologically advanced vehicles, a 48-hour timeframe allows customers to make the best informed decision on buying their next car.

Around 6 months ago, Tesla offered a 48-hour demo drive but it was limited to ‘invite only’ for existing Tesla owners. This time, Tesla is offering anyone to try its cars for 48 hours straight. You just need to go to Tesla.com/drive to sign up for the experience.

The best thing about this offer is that you can choose from Model Y, Model 3, Model S, Model X, and even a Cybertruck for a 48-hour test drive. And if you’re not sure which one to try, Tesla has a setup web app at Tesla.com/choose to help choose the right vehicle for you.

Interestingly, this offer is not limited to the United States or Canada. Tesla has launched this 48-hour demo drive offer globally. However, depending on the region, vehicle choices may be limited. For example, in Singapore, you can choose from Model 3 or Model Y only.

In the US & Canada, Cybertruck units are available for 48-hour test drives. This gives customers a chance to check out if the Cybertruck fits their garage or parking space and explore charging opportunites, charge times, range, and driving experience, etc.

Tesla Cybertruck might look a little odd compared to traditional pickup trucks. But whoever tries its steer-by-wire system doesn’t stay unimpressed. The Cybertruck steer-by-wire makes it the large electric pickup truck so nimble that it can easily take a hairpin turn in Monaco.

48-Hour Demo Drive Reviews

A Cybertruck owner tested the new Tesla Model Y Juniper for 48 hours. Although he enjoyed the electric SUV, the steer-by-wire system of the Cybertruck didn’t change his mind. He will keep his Cybertruck for the pleasure of the driving experience.

Another Cybertruck owner wrote:

I only had the new Model Y for an hour, but I couldn’t get over how much it made me love my Cyberbeast more. I don’t want to go back to hand-over-hand steering ever again.

Another user said he would prefer a Model Y or Model 3 over the Cybertruck because of a better Full Self-Driving (FSD) experience on smaller Teslas. He wrote on X:

I’d take our legacy model Y any day over Cybertruck for a daily driver, but it is mainly because of how good FSD is in the Y vs the truck driving erratically and driving on the fog line. It’s getting better, but without the ability to just use a basic cruise control to maintain a set speed, it is very irritating taking the truck on a long trip without FSD when it is acting up. The blind spot in the front corners also makes the Y more enjoyable. Both of these issues are solved once FSD is on the truck, though.

According to various reports, Tesla is facing a rush in Cybertruck test drive bookings. At some Tesla stores in the US, the Cybertruck 48-hour test drivess are fully booked for the next month.

However, a former Tesla employee and retail investor showed his concern for these long-duration test drives. According to Vladimir, this strategy is not good for customer conversion. It will rather result in abuse and misuse of Tesla vehicles for the major part. He wrote on X:

As a former Tesla employee, I’m skeptical about this 48-hrs initiative. From my experience, overnight demos often ended with cars returned dirty the next morning and minimal conversion rates. I’m curious whether extending the demo period to 48 hours will genuinely improve conversion or simply extend the opportunity for misuse. That said, I’m long Tesla
