The first driverless Tesla Robotaxi was spotted in Austin, Texas on Tuesday. A short video of this autonomous Tesla Model Y Robotaxi went viral on social media.

Tesla influencers pursued the official Tesla (TSLA) and Elon Musk accounts on X to get a launch date but to no avail. As we reported at the end of last month, 12th June was not the Tesla Robotaxi service launch date. The majority of the media fell for the unconfirmed Bloomberg report.

After multiple tries and tagging Elon Musk on X, the Tesla Community finally got a response from him. The vibrant Tesla CEO gave tentative dates for the launch of Tesla Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas and the first Tesla vehicle delivering itself to the customer.

Tesla Robotaxi Austin Launch Schedule

Tesla’s Elon Musk still didn’t give a rock-solid date for the launch of the Austin, Texas, Robotaxi service. He gave June 22 as the tentative date for the Robotaxi service launch. This date is for public rides as Musk was responding to the query of the availability of the Robotaxi service for the public.

Musk wrote:

Tentatively, June 22.

We are being super paranoid about safety, so the date could shift.

Tesla is currently performing Robotaxi testing in Austin with and without human drivers. If Tesla observes a safety concern during this extensive testing phase before 22nd June, the date might be shifted forward.

Interestingly, the automaker is not using the Robotaxi prototype vehicles that were revealed last year. All of the Tesla Robotaxis spotted in Austin, TX are the new Model Y Juniper vehicles with the following wordmark.

First Tesla Self-Delivery Date

Elon Musk also gave the date for the first-ever car delivering itself from the factory to the customer. In the history of the automotive industry, this is an unprecedented phenomenon.

After testing the Robotaxi service for a few days, Tesla is going to attempt the first self-delivery of a Model Y to a customer in Austin, Texas. The vehicle will drive itself from the factory to the customer’s delivery address tentatively on 28th June.

“First Tesla that drives itself from factory end of line all the way to a customer house is June 28,” Musk wrote on X.

Tesla Robotaxi Spottings in Austin, Texas

As the date for the Tesla Robotaxi service is nearing, more and more Robotaxi vehicles are being sighted in Austin. The first driverless Model Y Robotaxi was seen at a crosswalk a few days ago.

Interestingly, the vehicle slowed down and stopped for humans crossing the road using the crosswalk. The vehicle’s behavior mimicked humans. If the camera hadn’t captured the empty front seats, it would have been difficult to determine whether the vehicle was supervised or unsupervised.

The success of the Tesla Robotaxi program will increase the probability of the rollout of the Unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) to general Tesla owners in the United States and Canada.
