Elon Musk’s electric vehicle manufacturing company, Tesla (TSLA), revealed its Q2 2025 production and delivery numbers on Wednesday, July 2nd.

The US-based EV automaker performed better than the previous quarter but still lost significant sales compared to the same quarter last year.

In Q2 2025, Tesla produced 410,244 cars and delivered a total of 384,122 units. This means the automaker has a surplus of 26,122 cars in its inventory from Q2 production. Tesla already had a stockpile of 25,934 unsold vehicles from Q1.

Wall Street analysts estimated Tesla vehicle sales to be around 385k in Q2 2025. Looks like this time, the Wall Street stock traders were spot on on Tesla sales.

Tesla reports vehicle sales in two segments, Model 3 & Model Y combined, and the rest of the lineup, i.e., Model S, Model X, and the Cybertruck combined, is reported as ‘other Models’. This sort of reporting does not allow the investors and analysts to identify the sales of each vehicle separately.

However, we can see that the entry-level Model 3/Y segment sales grew in Q2, while the Model S/X/Cybertruck sales declined even further compared to Q1.

Tesla sold 49,928 more Model Y and Model 3 cars in Q2 2025 compared to the first quarter. The sales of other Models declined by 2,487 units despite the 0% APR offer on the Cybertruck and light design refresh of the Model S and X.

Overall, Tesla sold 47,441 more vehicles in Q2 compared to Q1. However, the numbers suggest that the luxury segment Tesla vehicles are on a constant decline, and the Cybertruck sales are also on a downward trend.

Compared to Q2 2024, Tesla has lost more than 15% of its overall vehicle sales in this quarter. Last year in Q2, Tesla delivered a total of 443,956 units of its electric vehicles, and this year it has dropped to 384,122 cars in Q2 year-over-year (YoY).

Tesla Energy Sustained Growth

Tesla’s vehicle sales might be down compared to previous years, but its energy storage and deployment segment is growing steadily.

Tesla Energy deployed 9.6 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and solar in Q2 2025. The sustainable energy business of Tesla had sold 10.4 GWh of its Megapack industrial-grade battery energy storage and solar in the first quarter.
