Tesla AI Chief gives tentative timeline for Cybertruck FSD v14 rollout

Tesla started the much-awaited rollout of the 14th installment of its Full Self-Driving AI software on Tuesday, 10/7. FSD v14.1 is the first of several updates to come till the end of the year.

In the initial phase of the rollout to non-employee Tesla owners, FSD v14.1 is going out to the select early access group members, influencers on X (Twitter), and YouTubers.

However, FSD v14.1 isn’t available on any Cybertruck. Experienced FSD beta tester Chuck Cook owns an AI4 (HW4) Model Y and a Cybertruck. He only received FSD v14 on his Model Y.

Cybertruck owners and influencers started tagging official Tesla AI and Elon Musk accounts on X, asking the status of Cybertruck FSD v14 rollout.

As the matter escalated, the head of Tesla AI, Ashok Elluswamy, made a post on X giving a tentative timeline of Cybertruck FSD v14 rollout.

According to Ashok, Tesla might start deploying FSD v14 to Cybertrucks by the end of October. “Most likely by the end of this month,” he wrote on X.

The wording “most likely” in Ashok’s statement suggests that it’s a tentative timeline and further delays are possible.

As the hype around FSD v14 heightened in the last few weeks, Tesla Cybertruck owners asked the automaker to make Cybertruck FSD v14 perform the same as it would on an AI4 Model Y.

Because of the odd and large dimensions of the Cybertruck, Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v13 performed differently on it compared to other conventional-looking Tesla EVs. This was indeed degraded performance and unexpected behavior in various scenarios.

To make Cybertruck FSD perform with the same accuracy, the Tesla AI team has to further fine-tune FSD v14.

Cybertruck owners might not get the first FSD v14.1 update as their first point release. Tesla might directly roll out FSD v14.2 or v14.3 to its Cybertruck customer units.

Tesla is still cautious in rolling out FSD v14 to customer vehicles. As of this writing, less than 0.1% of the Tesla fleet has received the FSD v14.1 update (source: TeslaFi.com and Tessie.com).
