A new Tesla update, version 2026.8.6, is rolling out as of this writing. This free over-the-air software update is going out to the Tesla fleet in North America and Europe.

In March, Tesla software update version 2026.2.9 brought Autopilot renaming to Tesla vehicles in North America. The automaker is now bringing this change to Europe in the 2026.8.6 update.

Several users are reporting getting this new update on X. According to TeslaFi.com and Tessie.com, the 20269.8.6 software update has been installed on about 2% of the global Tesla fleet of electric vehicles.

The official release notes for 2026.8.6 only mention the Autopilot Renaming as the main feature. Behind this, however, is a major upgrade that Tesla owners in Europe have been waiting for so long — getting FSD v14.

Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) v14 Europe

Many Tesla owners in Europe bought the Full Self-Driving (FSD) as a bundle when they ordered their cars. Especially, these Tesla car owners are very eager to test-drive Tesla FSD in their cars.

Last month, Tesla’s official account for Europe and the Middle East confirmed that it’s getting close to getting approval for testing FSD in the Netherlands. As Tesla and the RDW (Dutch Vehicle Authority) come to a finalized approval, Tesla FSD will gain recognition in Europe.

Currently, Tesla software update screens in Europe do not show the corresponding FSD version installed on the system (working in shadow mode). However, some Tesla owners have received official confirmation that the latest version of FSD v14 is deployed with the 2026.8.6 update (as of this writing, it’s FSD v14.2.2.5).

We previously reported that a recent change in Tesla driving visualizations suggests that Tesla FSD v14 is running in the background. Tesla and the RDW have confirmed that a rollout of Tesla FSD is most likely to happen in the Netherlands. Therefore, there’s hype and excitement among the European Tesla owners.

Tesla posted the following update on X (a video commentary by a Tesla owner, influencer, and my old-time Tesla friend Steven Peeters is attached below as well for further clarification on the subject):

Together with RDW, we have officially completed the final vehicle testing phase for Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and have submitted all documentation required for the UN R-171 approval + Article 39 exemptions. The RDW team is now reviewing the documentation and test results package internally. They have communicated the expected approval for Netherlands date of 4/10, shifting from 3/20 previously and we look forward to successful completion of this cooperation.

Following the Netherlands’ approval, European countries will be able to recognize this approval nationally. We are anticipating a possible EU-wide approval during the summer.

Over the past 18 months, this approval has involved a series of intense documentation, development, testing, research & audits. Including but certainly not limited to:

– 1,600,000+ km of FSD (Supervised) testing on EU roads
– 13,000+ customer sales ride-alongs
– 4,500+ track test scenario executions
– Thousands of pages of written documentation for 400+ compliance requirements
– Dozens of research studies into safety performance/results

We’re extremely proud of the work conducted with the RDW team up until this point.

We very much look forward to the approval in April, and sharing FSD (Supervised) with our patient EU customers!
