Development and construction work at the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin is progressing at a phenomenal pace (latest video below). Several observers of this massive car manufacturing plant in Brandenburg, Germany have been video documenting the development activities since day 1.

Just last week, a SpaceX Starlink satellite internet dish was spotted at the roof of Giga Berlin for the first time, suggesting Tesla has started using Starlink internet service at the factory. Local Giga Berlin observer Tobias Lindh shared the following photos of the Starlink receiver dish at Giga Berlin in a tweet.

Although one dish receiver cannot cater to the needs of the entire plant, this dish is placed above the temporary containers which are currently used as office space for the developing Gigafactory.

SpaceX is creating a low earth orbit (LEO) constellation of Starship satellites and is constantly launching Falcon 9 missions for the purpose. The Starlink website describes the beta state of this service as follows:

Starlink is now delivering initial beta service both domestically and internationally, and will continue expansion to near-global coverage of the populated world in 2021.

During beta, users can expect to see data speeds vary from 50Mb/s to 150Mb/s and latency from 20ms to 40ms in most locations over the next several months as we enhance the Starlink system. There will also be brief periods of no connectivity at all.

As we launch more satellites, install more ground stations, and improve our networking software, data speed, latency, and uptime will improve dramatically.

Unboxing of the Starlink ‘Dishy McFlatface (#DishyMcFlatFace)’ as Elon Musk likes to call it, can be seen in the following video by Tesla/SpaceX influencer Viv as she received her set last month.

SpaceX is not only expanding the Starlink constellation but also is upgrading the system along the way. With the satellite launch last month, SpaceX sent the new laser-linked Starlinks to the polar orbit.

It has been cold and snowy days at the Giga Berlin for the last few weeks, in the latest drone video from today, the factory is still covered with snow all around. It’s a white majestic view worth a look. What’s more interesting is Elon Musk wants Giga Berlin to be filled with graffiti art.
