Tesla (TSLA) Fremont, California — the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu visited the car factory and met with the company’s CEO Elon Musk yesterday. Both leaders (in their own domains) talked about various topics including AI, X (social media), and the future of humanity.
Elon Musk gave Netanyahu a tour of the Fremont factory and briefed him on some aspects of advanced manufacturing and how robots are making cars at this Tesla facility. Israeli PM along with the first lady took a keen interest in Musk’s presentation all along (full video below).
As Musk showed Netanyahu around the factory, large quantities of Model 3 and Model Y body panels can be seen stacked inside the factory. This shows the massive scale at which the production is going on at Fremont, and this is the smallest Tesla car manufacturing facility by area among Gigafactories.
The most interesting part for us was when Elon Musk gave a Cybertruck test ride to Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel’s PM seemed to be delighted by the unique experience.
Netanyahu is probably the first of the world leaders who sat in a Tesla Cybertruck and got a test ride given by Elon Musk himself. And Musk didn’t drive it slow, he apparently floored the accelerator pedal and drove the Cybertruck.
The Cybertruck test drive was conducted on the Tesla Fremont factory’s test track. Tesla has built this track for the testing and validation of its prototype electric vehicles. Tesla has been testing the Cybertruck prototypes on this test track since last year. The automaker is expected to start Cybertruck deliveries in October this year.
Israeli PM did not just have a tour of the Tesla factory and a Cybertruck drive, he also had a one-on-one session with Elon Musk. Both the leaders talked about various emerging topics and technologies that are changing today’s world.
In an official tweet, Netanyahu referred to Elon Musk as the “stalwart for freedom of expression and against antisemitism”. Elon Musk has recently pressed multiple times that his social media platform X strongly believes in freedom of speech within legal boundaries.
“We delved into the transformative power of AI — both its blessings and its curses,” Benjamin Netanyahu wrote further in his X post(tweet).
Musk and Netanyahu started the conversation with light humor by confirming that both of them were not some deep fakes but real Elon Musk and Benjamin Netanyahu. Then Musk went on to explaining how and why artificial general intelligence (AGI) and robots are potentially the biggest threat to humanity. On the other hand, Tesla is making its own AI-powered humanoid robot named Optimus.
Netanyahu responded to Elon Musk and said that AI potentially has both sides to it — blessing and the curse. We as humans should choose the blessings of artificial intelligence for the great good of the current and upcoming generations.
Israeli PM published the entire coversation of around 42 minutes in a post on X (Twitter) that you can listen and watch below.
