Tesla (TSLA) has started the customer delivery phaseout of its flagship Model S luxury electric sedan and Model X luxury electric SUV. The company’s official South Korean blog announced March 31st as the final order placement date for these vehicles.

South Korea is the first country where Tesla has officially given an order deadline. During the Q4 2025 Earnings Call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the company will discontinue production of the Model S and Model X EVs by Q2 2026.

The automaker is expected to make further announcements of order deadlines for other countries in the coming weeks, as the 2nd quarter is approaching. These upcoming deadlines are also tied to Tesla’s leftover inventory of the Model S and Model X vehicles. As the inventory depletes, Tesla will stop taking orders.

Why Tesla is Discontinuing Model S and X

The sales volume of both Tesla Model S and Model X EVs has been disappointing over several quarters in recent years. This became the major reason for the discontinuation of these vehicles.

Along the way, Tesla developed the new Model Y L, a long wheelbase Model Y variant that seats six passengers. Launched in China first, Tesla is now starting to sell Model Y L in other markets like Australia and New Zealand, and is expected to come to South Korea as well.

Model Y L will replace the Model X SUV for the most part. However, a replacement for the Model S sedan is not in sight yet. Tesla will remove the Model S and X assembly at the Fremont factory later this year. This space will be utilized to produce Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus.

Tesla Model S and Model X South Korea Prices

Surprisingly, the Tesla Model S and Model X electric cars cost less in South Korea compared to the United States, where they are actually manufactured.

The price of the base Tesla Model S AWD in South Korea is Korean Won (KRW) 125,000,000, which is around $83,266 in US Dollars. The same vehicle with the same specs is priced at $94,990 in the United States. This is a difference of more than $11,700.

The top-end Model S Plaid comes at a price tag of KRW 131,000,000, which is equal to around $87,260 in today’s USD. The same Model S Plaid EV costs $109,990 in the US, a stark difference of more than $22,700.

At the start of the year, Tesla EV prices in South Korea were higher compared to today’s, but with the recent government subsidies, the prices have come down significantly, as much as $6,500.
