The Tesla leader responsible for spearheading the Semi Truck program has left the automaker at a critical time, yes, just before the Model S Plaid delivery event and all the controversy surrounding the Plaid+ cancellation.

An SEC filing from yesterday (PDF below) announces the departure of a long-time Tesla veteran, “As of June 3, 2021, Jerome Guillen, President, Tesla Heavy Trucking, of Tesla, Inc. (“Tesla”), departed Tesla. We thank him for his many contributions and wish him well in his future career,” the document stated.

It has just been a few months since Tesla created a dedicated Heavy Duty Trucking department and Jerome took its helm. In his 10+ years of career at Tesla, he performed in major roles starting as a Program Director for the Tesla Model S in 2010. He was one of the key people in bringing Elon Musk’s vision of the Model S to production.

Jerome came to the limelight when he started leading the Tesla Semi Truck program in 2016. It was his comeback after a few months of an abrupt exit from Tesla. It is believed that Mr. Guillen was the main driving force behind the Tesla Semi development.

We’ve checked Jerome’s LinkedIn profile and he has not yet added a new position at another company or posted an update of his leaving Tesla.

He even sold $6M worth of his Tesla (TSLA) shares a few weeks prior to leaving his job, probably a precursor that he is not going to be linked with Tesla, Inc. in the foreseeable future — but no one knows for sure.

Jerome had left Tesla in 2015 in a similar situation, just 2 days before the Model X unveiling event, just to come back later to join a bigger better role at the Silicon Valley-based auto company.
