Elon Musk has officially announced on Twitter that the production of Tesla Semi class-8 electric trucks has finally begun. He also expressed his excitement about delivering the first batch of Tesla Semis to the company’s corporate client PepsiCo.

PepsiCo placed an order of 100 Tesla Semis back in Dec 2017 and the multinational beverage conglomerate is finally going to get deliveries five years later. PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta was expecting Tesla Semi deliveries last year but due to unknown circumstances, the deliveries were delayed for an entire year.

Musk also confirmed that the first batch of Tesla Semi trucks PepsiCo is getting the delivery on 1st December 2022 are the 500-mile long-range variants.

PepsiCo’s order of 100 Tesla Semis is the 3rd largest in all of the publicly-known orders for the first-ever class-8 electric semi that will be used for freight transportation in the real world.

UPS holds the 2nd largest reservation of 125 Tesla Semi trucks. Pride Group Enterprises (PGE) placed the largest order of 150 Tesla Semi trucks back in 2020 to accelerate the company’s sustainability goals.

Tesla had paused Semi truck reservations online in August and the website does not show the reservation button even after Musk’s production-start announcement.

The manufacturing of Tesla Semi trucks is taking place at the electric automaker’s Gigafactory in Sparks, Nevada (Giga Nevada).

To support production and testing, Tesla has built a Megacharger station at Giga Nevada, the first and only Megacharger station as of now.

But Tesla has committed to building an entire network of these Megacharger stations across trucking rest stops in North America and Europe in the future. A necessary infrastructure that’s needed to support worry-free zero-emissions logistics and goods transportation on long routes.

Just before production began yesterday (6th Oct 2022), Tesla Semi prototypes have been spotted in the states of Kentucky and Arizona.

Tesla Owners Club Kentucky posted the following beautiful pictures of the Tesla Semi that the club members saw on their way to the National Drive Electric Week in Louisville late last month.

The time is coming close when we will witness the final production of Tesla Semi trucks roaming the highways as PepsiCo receives its deliveries in a couple of months’ time.

In the past, the prototypes have been seen delivering Tesla Model 3 and Model Y cars to real customers in California and some other states. Now the time for real sustainable road logistics is starting soon, stay tuned for future updates.
