Stealth Gray Tesla Model X spotted next to a Midnight Silver Metallic Model 3 for the first time

Tesla (TSLA) launched a new color for its luxury segment Model S and Model X cars last week. It’s the same Stealth Gray color that Tesla introduced for the Giga Shanghai-made Model 3 Highland around two months ago.

Tesla has upgraded the Model S and Model X paint shop at the Fremont factory to include the new Stealth Gray color in the available palette. Stealth Grey has now replaced the Midnight Silver Metallic shade of gray.

Interestingly, Tesla does not charge an extra premium for the new color. Like the other available colors, Stealth Gray is included in the price of a new Model S or Model X.

Let’s look at the following comparison photo of both shades of Tesla grey to get an idea of the fluctuation the new color has brought to the table. The Stealth Grey is much darker and sharper toward a charcoal grey compared to the old Midnight Silver Metallic which is more inclined towards a silver shade.

According to a Tesla owner who saw a Stealth Grey Model X personally, this color changes its shade with significant variation depending on the angle of the light (pics below).

A Tesla owner who got excited by Tesla’s addition of this new paint option was looking for a way to see it in person. His luck struck and he received a call from a Tesla Store sales officer. He was shocked to know that a new Stealth Grey Tesla Model X was just parked behind a Midnight Silver Metallic Tesla Model 3. Rushed to the Tesla Store — was what he did next.

The following pictures of a Tesla Model X in Stealth Grey beside a Midnight Silver Metallic Tesla Model 3 show us the difference between both colors in the real world. Luckily (again), there was a lot of sunshine available when Redditor u/Pixlrage took these photos.

u/Pixlrage shared his experience and excitement in a Reddit post as follows:

I thought this might be useful for those that want a better idea as to what Stealth Grey looks like in person. I called my local dealer to see if they had any in stock and the guy on the phone told me to hurry over because they had one next to a grey Model 3.

Some things I noticed: I see why they call it Stealth, because the color changes pretty drastically depending on the light and angle. Walking up to it I thought the guy was mistaken and that he was showing me a black Model X. Up close, it looks like a darker version of the existing Model 3 grey.

I’m purchasing a Model S Plaid as they are letting me transfer over my unlimited supercharging (2018 Model S 75D) and I was torn between Black and Stealth Grey. After seeing it in person I opted for Stealth Grey! Delivery is Nov/Dec.

Although the Tesla Model 3 in Europe is available in Stealth Grey color, Tesla hasn’t introduced it for the Model Y. Tesla introduced the Quicksilver color last year instead and has gained much popularity since then.

Let us know what you think of the new Stealth Grey color for the Tesla Model S and X in the comments section below.
