A Tesla Cybertruck owner who bought a top-end Tri-Motor Cyberbeast variant takes the truck to the dragstrip for some real-world acceleration numbers for us.
According to the official Cyberbeast specifications, Tesla’s electric pickup truck can go from 0-60 mph in just 2.6 seconds. That’s super quick for a 3.1-tonne boxy vehicle with not-so-good aerodynamics.
Tesla (TSLA) showed a drag racing battle between a Porsche 911 and the Cybertruck Cyberbeast at the Delivery Event last year. With the insane 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds, the Cyberbeast defeated the Porsche 911 while towing another 911 simultaneously.
Tesla Cyberbeast owner @DblCapCrimpin / YouTube used Dragy to give us the real-world acceleration numbers calculated at the dragstrip. He posted the following driver’s POV video of the Cyberbeast doing acceleration tests on X (previously Twitter).
Despite being not charged to a 100% state-of-charge (SoC), the Tesla Cybertruck accelerated from 0-60 mph in just 2.68 seconds. This is very close to the manufacturer-provided specs of the EV pickup truck.
The Cyberbeast Cybertruck completed the quarter-mile in 11.85 seconds ([email protected] mph). Cybertruck achieved this impressive 1/4 mile number despite decelerating after completing the 1/8 mile run at full acceleration.
Let’s look at the quickest production car, the Tesla Model S Plaid for comparison. A Model S Plaid completes a 1/4 mile run in under 10 seconds. Jay Leno even broke the world quarter-mile record with the Model S Plaid in 2021.
With the improvements in powertrain and software technology over the years, Tesla vehicles have achieved consistency in performance. A Tesla Model S Plaid did an under 10-second quarter-mile with just 20% battery capacity left. Not to forget, it had already done 40 quarter-mile runs.
At the same dragstrip, the Tesla Cyberbeast did five 1/8 mile runs. The performance of the Cybertruck also remained consistent as it completed these 1/8 miles within the range of 6.86s to 7.64s with an average of 7.04s (watch below).
Cyberbeast defeated two opponent cars in these drag races and got defeated by one highly modified Dodge Challenger Hellcat and performed two solo runs.
