Elon Musk says Tesla auto wiper issues are fixed in FSD v12.3.3, but owners still report problems

Tesla CEO and Technoking Elon Musk confirmed last week that the auto wiper function has been fixed.

He replied to a video of FSD v12.3.3 from a Tesla owner who said that the auto wipers are working perfectly now.

Following this X post, multiple Tesla owners confirmed that auto wipers are now working better on their cars. However, after a week of this improvement being deployed, multiple Tesla owners have reported that they’re still having the same issues with auto wipers.

Earlier in February, a Tesla AI engineer had confirmed that a fix for the auto wiper issue is coming in one of the next over-the-air (OTA) software updates. After almost two months, Tesla rolled out the fix but it seems that the problem hasn’t been fixed for everyone.

According to Elon Musk, the auto wiper issue was harder to fix than it seems. According to senior Tesla owners, this issue was once fixed in an older update but after that the issue came back and is still haunting Tesla vehicles.

Tesla vehicles don’t have any rain sensors installed. Tesa relies on its AI Vision using the car’s front cameras cameras to detect rain. If the windshield appears wet with droplets, the cameras send a signal to the car’s computer to trigger wipers in auto mode.

Due to a technical glitch in Tesla software, auto wipers are not triggered properly or at all. In some cases, Tesla owners have reported the wipers also acted weirdly and turned on in completely dry weather conditions. Tesla Vision seems to be having issues detecting rain/water droplets using the forward-facing cameras installed behind the windshield of the cars.

There can be two reasons that some Tesla owners are not experiencing the auto wipers issue fix. Either its only fixed for Tesla vehicles running on the FSD (Supervised) v12.3.3 and later updates and not the non-FSD branches of Tesla software. Or, the update that Tesla rolled out for the issue did not fully address the issue.

Tesla owners are divided in two segments, for some the auto wipers are working fine while for others they aren’t.

Some anti-Tesla influencers on X (Twitter) yesterday attempted to run a trend on the social media platform trying to prove that the auto wiper issue is dangerous. To which the Tesla Community responded that while this issue is annoying, it is not dangerous at all.

In the owner’s manual, Tesla has explicitly mentioned that the Auto Wiper function is still in its BETA phase. When the issues are finally resolved, Tesla will remove the BETA suffix from its name.

The Auto setting is currently in BETA. If uncertain about using the Auto setting while in the BETA phase, Tesla recommends operating the wipers manually, as necessary.
