Tesla (TSLA) is moving ahead fast with point-release rollouts for FSD 12.5 after its initial rollout toward the end of last month. The automaker has now released FSD 12.5.1.1 (2024.21.5) — the third point release in just 2 weeks.
The Tesla Autopilot AI development team is constantly looking for feedback from vehicles, social media influencers, and YouTubers. This gives Tesla engineers a chance to iron out bugs and issues promptly (watch first impressions).
As of this writing, TeslaFi.com software tracking statistics suggest that 730 out of 20,037 data-contributing Tesla vehicles have already installed FSD v12.5.1.1 (firmware version 2024.21.5). 125 vehicles have pending installs of this latest Tesla Ful Self-Driving (FSD Supervised) software update.
Tesla owners have started sharing their experience with the latest FSD v12.5.1.1 update. Compared to the previous versions, beta testers report improvements in scenarios such as U-turns, unprotected left-turns (UPLs), and lane change decision-making.
FSD 12.5 and its subversion releases are yet to be rolled out to the Hardware 3 (HW3) Tesla vehicles. Last week, Elon Musk said that it’s going to be released for HW3 vehicles in 10 days but it still seems too optimistic. With the current rollout speed of point releases for FSD v12.5, it might be too overwhelming for the Tesla software team to optimize it for HW3 vehicles in the coming days — it can still take a few weeks.
The majority of Tesla owners in the US are stuck on the FSD v12.3.6 branch. Tesla is still not rolling out FSD v12.5 as a true wide release because of HW3 vehicles, other non-FSD software branches, and for rigorous testing before sending it to thousands of users.
Currently, only Hardware 4 (HW4) Tesla vehicle owners are getting the FSD 12.5 and later updates.
The graph of the FSD v12.5.1.1 rollout shows that the largest wave of this version was released yesterday (4th August). The distribution of this update has slowed down again today. According to TeslaFi.com data, 1,149 owners received the FSD 12.5.1.1 update at 9:00 AM yesterday since then the rollout rate has dropped to 15 – 30 installs per hour today.

FSD v12.5.1.1 comes with the same release notes as its main 12.5 branch which outlines the main improvements this version brings with itself.
Apart from the regular paragraph on the removal of the 300K lines of code and end-to-end neural network on city streets, Tesla listed a few upcoming improvements with the release notes of the FSD v12.5.1.1 (read below).
Cybertruck owners are also waiting to get FSD 12.5 on their Tesla electric pickup trucks as the update is expected to roll out for them in August.
FSD (Supervised) v12 upgrades the city-streets driving stack to a single end-to-end neural network trained on millions of video clips, replacing over 300K lines of explicit C++ code.
