Tesla (TSLA) started giving a 1-month free trial of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software a few days ago.
In the first wave of the FSD trial software rollout, Tesla pushed the much older FSD version 12.3.6 to anyone who opted in for the offer.
Many Tesla owners shared their concerns over the old FSD version they received for the trial despite the Tesla email referencing the Robotaxi unveiling event where Tesla cars used the latest FSD v13 to navigate the venue space.
However, the 2nd wave of the 30-day trial rollout brings major upgrades to FSD 12.5 and the Actually Smart Summon (ASS) feature.
A Tesla owner and our follower on X from Canada (@CyberNatural_BC) was the first one to tell us that he got an upgrade from FSD v12.3.6 to v12.5.4.1 after his trial installation. I asked him for a screenshot and he post it on X (above). This confirmed the upgrades are being in the process.
Another Canadian Tesla owner and founder of the Tesla Owners Online Trevor Page confirmed that he got the FSD trial version updated to FSD v12.5.4.1.
The FSD v12.5.4.1 (2024.32.10) started rolling out late last month. The release notes of this FSD update listed the improvements made to the Actually Smart Summon (ASS) feature.
FSD trial users can now experience the improved Tesla ASS feature that can be used to call your car autonomously to you in a parking lot or driveway.
Although, FSD v12.5.4.1 is not the latest version of FSD v12.5, it’s the most stable one. With the trial rollout expanding, this is the most widely installed version of Tesla Autopilot Full Self-Driving as of now.
According to TeslaFi.com tracking stats, FSD v12.5.4.1 (2024.32.10) is installed on 42% of Tesla cars as of now (out of the total 19,867 data-contributing vehicles).
Another Tesla owner reported that his FSD trial automatically started just a day before his Model Y reached the service center for repairs. The time of the trial period will be wasted as the vehicle sits at the Tesla service center. Freezing the trial period when the car is not in use for long periods might be useful for such users but Tesla is not going to do this for obvious reasons.
However, the original trial version was also available on older legacy Tesla vehicles but to upgrade to the new FSD v12.5.4.1, you at least need a Hardware 3 (HW3) equipped car.
