Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk said during the 2024 yearly earnings call that “The reality of autonomy is upon us”.

The tech & AI automaker’s latest installment of FSD v13 has earned mostly positive reviews from experienced beta testers and newbies alike. Some even refer to it as ‘magic’.

Musk also teased that Unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) is expected to be available for the first time in Austin, Texas by June 2025.

In this context, Tesla owners are getting ready to experience Tesla’s Full Self-Driving. A minority of these Tesla owners go out of the way to test or flex Tesla Autopilot’s self-driving capabilities.

One such Tesla owner posted a video online showing her car driving itself on the highway as she eats her burger and takes soft drinks in a calm manner. This is a glimpse of the future where the vehicle is completely in charge of driving and the occupants can relax, work, or just have fun inside the car.

FSD v13 is the latest version of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system. However, the tech & AI automaker still labels it as ‘Supervised’. This means that the person sitting in the driver’s seat is fully responsible for the outcomes in case of an incident.

Supervised FSD asks the driver to remain vigilant at all times, look forward on the road (attentiveness monitored by the cabin camera), and be ready to take over the steering wheel, brakes, or the accelerator pedal at any point of time.

The automaker plans to release Unsupervised FSD for just Austin, TX by June. FSD v14 is slated to be the first major version that will not require human attention in a geologically limited area like the City of Austin.

The next possible locations where Unsupervised FSD will be released are the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco, California. Because of the density of Tesla owners and FSD beta testers in California, Tesla has a ton of data on its state of origin.

Earlier this week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the automaker is still on schedule to release Unsupervised FSD. “Tesla is still on track to launch autonomous ride-hailing in Austin in June and roll out to many cities in America by the end of this year,” Musk wrote on X.

“Ultimately, autonomous cars will be >1,000% safer than human-driven cars,” he once again emphasized the increased safety of fully autonomous vehicles compared to human drivers.
