Tesla CEO Elon Musk responds to media lies about $400M purchase of armored Cybertrucks by the US Dept. of State

A couple of days ago, US Department of State’s procurement planning files surfaced online that listed a $400 million purchase of armored Tesla Cybertrucks by the government.

Because currently Elon Musk holds a position of an advisor to the US President Donald J. Trump, this sounded like a conflict of interest. The mainstream media translated it as if the current adminstration awarded this contract to Elon Musk’s Tesla, Inc. (TSLA).

However, upon checking the official website of the US Dept. of State, it was clear that the planning for this purchase was revised in on 13th December 2024 when Joe Biden was in the Oval Office.

Now, reportedly, the US Department of State has suspended the purchase of $400M worth of Tesla Cybertrucks from Elon Musk’s electric vehicle manufacturing company.

The updated documents of the Procurement Forecast by the US Dept. of State have removed the Tesla $400M contract information. This confirms that the contract has been put on the back burner. Most probably until Elon Musk remains the advisor at the White House, Tesla will not be selling its vehicles to the federal government.

After much debate on this matter on traditional and social media, Elon Musk finally responded to it on X. He tagged the host of MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow who mimicked Musk and the Cybertruck on her show. Apparently she was very well misinformed about the vehicle and how it works.

“Hey Rachel Maddow, why the lie,” Musk reposted the following video tweet in which she accused of Elon Musk with a conflict of interest and made fun of the Cybertruck. She showed the 1st unveiling video of the Cybertruck’s window glass broke as Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen threw a metal ball at it.

It’s worth noting that Tesla never advertised that the Cybertruck has ‘armored’ or ‘bulletproof’ glass. The 30X stainless steel exoskeleton shell of the unconventional electric pickup truck however is bulletproof to an extent (demo video).

During the California wildfires, Musk even cautioned volunteers using Cybertrucks for rescue services that they should duck-down to avoid bullets if they face such a situation as some areas were considered dangerous.

“Cybertruck side panels are bulletproof to subsonic projectiles (handguns, shotgun & Tommy gun), but the glass is not, so make sure to duck if you see anyone wielding a gun,” he wrote on X.
