Tesla (TSLA) is aggressively working on the expansion of its Robotaxi service in the United States.

Just last weekend, the automaker expanded its geofence map in Austin after launching service in the San Francisco Bay Area. The geofenced Robotaxi service is still limited to invite-only early access users in Texas and California.

After these expansions, Tesla is moving fast ahead to offer the same service in other US cities. The recent jobs listing at Tesla’s official careers website shows that the tech & AI automaker is hiring vehicle operators for Autopilot/Robotaxi in multiple US states and cities.

New York, Nevada, Arizona, and Florida are the new states where Tesla is hiring new vehicle operators for Robotaxi service expansion and Autopilot testing and data collection.

The description of the Vehicle Operator, Autopilot positions states the following:

We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter to join our vehicle data collection team. As a Prototype Vehicle Operator, you will be responsible for driving an engineering vehicle for extended periods, conducting dynamic audio and camera data collection for testing and training purposes. Access to the data collected is limited to the applicable development team. This role requires a high level of flexibility, strong attention to detail, excellent driving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The listing also shows that Tesla is performing Autopilot/FSD/Robotaxi test round the clock in the following 6 different shifts (Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday):

  • Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM or 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Afternoon Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM or 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM
  • Night Shift: 10:00 PM-6:30AM or 12:00AM-8:30 AM

Tesla is not just hiring Autopilot Vehicle Operators in the existing and new locations; it’s hiring Data Collection Supervisors as well to lead, support, and coordinate the Robotaxi testing and data collection across the city fleet.

The job description explains the demanding and rewarding role as:

Tesla is seeking a high intensity action-oriented leader to accelerate our vehicle-level testing by supporting and coordinating local operations, assisting with troubleshooting and incident reporting as needed. This position requires willingness to adapt and excel in a dynamic fast-paced environment. This position will be responsible for maintaining excellent data collection, through both management of a team of vehicle operators and individual excellence in all testing tracks.

Tesla is currently in the process of expanding its Robotaxi autonomous ride-hailing service to the following cities:

  • Palo Alto, California
  • Brooklyn, New York
  • Houston, Texas
  • Farmer’s Branch, Texas
  • Tempe, Arizona
  • Henderson, Nevada
  • Tampa, Florida
  • Clermont, Florida
  • Miami, Florida

In the short term, Tesla will be focusing on improving and expanding its Robotaxi service and opening it for the general public in Austin and San Francisco.

I think these Tesla jobs are a great opportunity to be part of a system that’s changing how humans will be using cars in the future.

In a recent X post, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the automaker is working to increase the number of its Robotaxi fleet in California to 100 vehicles. He wrote:

We are working as quickly as possible to get 100+ Teslas operating for autonomous ride-hailing (can’t use the word “taxi” or “cab” in California) in the Bay Area and allow anyone to request a ride.
