Tesla update 2025.38 UI displays the type of charger connected to the vehicle

Tesla (TSLA) silently added a new UI improvement feature in its over-the-air (OTA) update version 2025.38. Now when a Tesla is charging, the vehicle can display a 3D visualization of the type of charger it is connected to.

Before the 2025.38 update, Tesla vehicles only showed charging speeds and percentages on its on-screen UI when charging. The speed of charging mostly determined the type of Tesla or EV charger connected.

However, this has now changed with the 2025.38 and its subversion point-release updates that are going wide release to the global Tesla fleet.

Displaying the type of charger i.e., a Supercharger, Destination or Wall Charger, and Tesla Mobile Charger is now possible for Tesla vehicles with this latest Tesla software update (see screenshots below).

The screenshot of a Tesla Model Y above shows the vehicle is connected to a V3 Tesla Supercharger stall. This means that the Tesla vehicles are also able to distinguish between V3 and V4 Superchargers and displaying them correctly.

Another thing to notice is that the visualization is showing the wire in green color which means the vehicle is currently charging. When the car stops charging or it hasn’t started yet, the visualization of the cable from the charging source remains grey.

In some cases such as when using a third-party charger or Tesla mobile charger (slower speeds), the charging cable rendering is shown in blue color instead of green (see screenshots below).
